 ;D

Excellent news!  I have TW2004 (And might pick up TW2005 since it's on sale for 9.99 this week), but those games are really single player IMO.  Too complicated for a casual setting.

Edit:  And I don't wanna get in this argument again, but I'm one of those XP users  that gets nothing but crashes from GT PC.

Ya I got TW2004 and Tw2005 I use xp and ive never had any problems with GT PC.  I thought these games werent coming out?  I hope they come out that would be great.

Personally, I thought TW99 was a wonderfully arcadey golf game, but you swing the trackball right and left, not back and forth.... :(

It seems that since the pre-2001 Golden Tee games are no longer for sale, they're now Mameable.
More details on Aaron Giles WIP pages (http://aarongiles.com/weblog/archives/2005/02/february_surpri.html#comments).
Can't wait to see how slow these run!

That is some excellent, exciting news.  This was probably the biggest hurdle to getting them into MAME, and now that they aren't "current" we'll just have to see how they play on modern PCs like JoyMonkey said.

I know some of the GTs were in MAME for a short while, or there were at least some versions out somewhere... does anyone know how they ran?  What types of speeds will we need to have some crazy drunken GT2k parties ;)

It seems to use the same drivers as world class bowling..

If you can run that I bet you can run golf.

I can't wait!!!

(And I own 2 of the real games myself!)

Shuffleshot is an IT game as well isn't it? I believe that came out after some of the GT's so if you can run that I'd think you can run these :) Just speculation though, didn't check what driver shuffleshot uses.

I don't think I've played any GT games before previous to 2001. Did these earlier ones include the 3D 'follow the ball' fly-bys? I can see those being seriously chuggy.

The new machines (2k2 and later) introduced the flyby and backspin buttons.

Out of curiosity, what version of directx are you using?  I can never get the thing to load before it crashes XP.  After spending some time on google, I came to the conclusion this is fairly common and some have stated any version of directx 8.0 or higher = automatic death.  Talking about GT PC.

I'll let you know one thing.  It runs like crap on a PIII 500.

I'm gonna guess I'll have a better shot at it.

p4 2.8 /1 gig ram.

After this comes out I've got to redo my control panel and put the trackball in the center of the panel.

It's been fully emulated in mame since probably 20-30 versions ago and left out because it was still a money maker for IT.  Since IT isn't selling it anymore I assume they now feel it's safe to add to mame.  So I'm guessing it will be added in the next release.  Not sure why they would create a stir about it otherwise.

Exactly.  It's been out for along time.

shuffleshot just runs on my PIII 500.  Frameskips once and awhile.  GTG I horrible.  But that's on the old driver before the SHA-1 driver change era.

GTG runs well on a 900mhz machine I have.

I kept updating *my* driver for a while (no, you can't have it, don't ask :) ).. i wonder if it'll still compile in.. hmm..  Oh well I never did get wcbowldx to work, that'll be nice, I guess.

Had to happen sometime.  Trust me, after all the hype and wait and worry about gtg in MAME, you're going to get it, play it once or twice, and never really play it again.  Especially after playing GT Fore! or TW golf, it's kinda disappointing now, but still fun nonetheless.  Hopefully the annoying little bugs in my driver have been fixed.

It's all in the protection address, toots... ;)

I'm stoked cause I've wanted to update my version of Mame but have been too lazy to update my GTG driver. Its great with the screen flip on on my cocktail cab, but I've gotta play with the thumb flick d/t the lack of room...  >:(

I've had a working GT driver for a couple of years and resisted the tempation to rub it in...  ;D

Justed wanted to answer a question I saw above.  I believe if you go to the IT website, you can get a comparison of the cab dimensions amongst the machines.  The angles and such.  I'm really excited about this one boys.  Good news!!!

Not me, I'm don't think the GT games are that special.  I built my trackball panel for mainly non-golf games.  Shuuz is one of my faves while drinking with mates  ;D

Well, I built mine for centipede, bowling games, and marble madness.

AND Golden Tee.  But I got really into playing Fore! in the arcade, and coming back to GT2k is like playing halo, then trying to really get into a game of pong right afterwards..  It's still fun tho.  I break it out from time to time. :)

Shuuz is what I play, but Ive been playing alot of world class bowling lately also some suffleshot.

Rolled a 237 the other night in WCB.  Im going to get my 300 game sometime.

But on another note I cant wait for the new GT games to come out.

I love the GTG games. The courses on GT Classic are pretty cool.

Much like other 4 player games, its as much the social & taunting part as it is the game itself. (at least for me) Plus its a great betting game... buck a stroke anyone?

I wish Shuuz had a timer you could disable like you can in the GT dipswitch / setup. That sure makes it easier to run and get a beer...:p

So how far from the screen should the top of the TB be?
In my experimenting, a foot or more is ideal from the center of the trackball, and 8 inches should be considered the minimum.

I'm now a happy boy.

(Yes I've already played a quick game..)   ;D

Now I just need to make a new skin for a goldentee for mamewah..

Thanks it for discontinuing these games.

But the good part is.. My GTG96 game on location will still make the same money, mame will not affect it's income in the least.

You don't necessarily need a dedicated pause button to enable pause. And you don't need an I-Pac shift key either.
MAME will allow you to assign multiple inputs for a single key.
When assigning pause, press all the start buttons at the same time.  Now the game will only pause if all the start buttons are pressed at the same time. For other functions you could do more difficult combinations like pressing one joystick up, one joystick down, second start button at same time.
Now your control panel will look more authentic without having buttons for PAUSE and ESC and so on.

These are the 3 things that I've done with my settings.  Have the same set-up and plays fine IMO (No MAME changes).  Maybe it's different from the arcade if you're used to it (Don't know), but it plays like I think it should with this.

Beautifully.

Now remember, we're still talking about a relatively primitive form of Golden Tee compared to modern versions like Golden Tee Fore.  All the versions are essentially the same with different courses, so don't expect Golden Tee 2K to be a lot better than Golden Tee 97.

Man, Advmame doesn't work with my D9200 out of the box.  Bummer!  I much prefer doing things the "easy way".  (read: I'm lazy).

I select D9200 and no matter what refresh rate, it just gives me "out of range" errors.  Guess it's time to start digging.

Using a Happ Golden Tee trackball, with Windows XP's default driver's mouse speed right in the middle and with the regitry tweak to disable accelleration, the default MAME settings work perfectly for me in Golden Tee.

You don't need nearly as much room behind your trackball with Golden Tee as people THINK they do. There is no real distance between a monster glass bashing/hand smacking drive, and simple good firm one. When I had my Golden Tee '99 (In an Atari System I cabinet), my friend Dave did glass bashing drives every time, and I just rolled it nice a firm, and I usually out drove him.

After poking around on Advmame's website, I was wondering the same thing.  I'll have to check my video card (I think it is an ATI).  I'm all-DOS, by the way (that is my purpose for trying advmame - to be able to play GT in DOS).

Paige, despite the fact that we don't NEED the space to roll, doesn't mean we don't WANT the space.  In theory, a person could play using a thumb spin even if the monitor glass was vertical right above the trackball.  But that doesn't mean we'd want to play it that way. :)

We used to play Shuuz fairly often, and we all made long, smooth strokes.  It might not net a better effect or more accuracy, but it is more fun.  I think it might be because the long stroke resembles the swinging sensation of throwing a horseshoe.

I dunno if you missed the thread about having a security device. But if you have a security device behind the trackball like the pic shown, they won't roll the trackball like crazy.
