Yeah so from having this lazy office job, I obtained a small gut over the past year or so. And ive been really lazy and meaning to hit the gym but i never have money to go pay for a membership. So anyway the last 2 weeks some really crazy sh1t been happening and its made me really upset and have no appetite at all. I been eating like 1 meal a day maybe, for like the past 10 days. And today i looked in the mirror and my gut is like 90% gone, its amazing!
basicly the moral of the story is, dont eat food and your fat goes away. I know it sounds crazy but its true =P
-
Rock on,... I need to lose some holiday weight gain, lol.
-
basicly the moral of the story is, dont eat food and your fat goes away. I know it sounds crazy but its true =P
That's not such a good idea ... decreasing your intake will actually do more harm than good. If you're serious about losing weight, you need to eat at least 6-8 small meals a day, and NOTHING after 6pm. Perhaps a nice protein shake before bed, but no food.
Drink plenty of water also ... at least 1 gallon a day, 2 if you can manage. You'll drop that weight in no time.

well now that i have most of it off im just wondering how im going to keep it off. Im slowly gaining my appetite back, i had a muffin top for breakfast and some tea. usually havent been eating anything in the morning. I usually do have a habit to eat at like 11pm or so, so thats bad? i usually end up eating fast food 3-4 times a week which is probably really bad so im going to try to limit that, but what else can i eat for lunch at work? Are those canned soups any good for you? like the kind with like beef and potatos and stuff
-
Bad news is stress induced weight-loss doesn't tend to stay off, and the act of losing it under such circumstances is extremely taxing on the body and heart.
I would recommend exercise! :)
P.S. It'd also be good to cut out the fast-food and decrease your sugar intake. You'd also be able to manage the weight better solely by cutting the volume of each meal in half. If you tend to eat a lot at one sitting.
-
yeah i actually do eat a lot in one sitting but i dont eat often, usually only like 2 meals a day, and then i get hungry before bed and have a snack. im gonna stop drinking soda and only drink iced tea and juices, i cant drink water though its too plain.
edit: this is all konamis fault really, if they came out with a 9th mix DDR this summer i wouldve been into it and that kept me in shape for a while. but now i never play anymore cause im bored with all the songs, damn you konami!
-
Well here is my routine ... just as an example.
I start off with a good breakfast, milk-juice, and a nice bowl of cereal, followed by a banana. I then take my vitamins with a nice 64oz. cup of water. Get's your metabolism going, and a good start for the day.
If at all possible, keep moving. If you're at a desk, get up once an hour and stretch and do a little exercise. DONT WORRY what someone else thinks.
Mid morning, have some turkey breast, or roast beef ... any type of luncheon meat ... NO BREAD! Make finger rolls, trust me ... they make for a good snack, and it's healthy. ......
This should get you through the morning and at lunch ... stay away from the EVIL McD's. If you can't, then at least buy the grilled chicken breast. ... don't eat the bread. And give your fries to a co-worker, pref. an enemy. Those things will kill you !!
-
thanks for the tips, thats a good lunch idea. i think ill go buy some coldcuts on my break
-
yeah i actually do eat a lot in one sitting but i dont eat often, usually only like 2 meals a day, and then i get hungry before bed and have a snack.
Then as GeneralZod mentioned above, one of the best things for you to do is change this eating schedule. Eat smaller meals, throughout the day and stop eating in the early pm. This gives your metabolism time to work properly.

im gonna stop drinking soda and only drink iced tea and juices, i cant drink water though its too plain.
Be careful drinking those ... as some teas and juices actually have more sugar than soda, and will end up making you gain weight instead of losing.
Try some CrystalLight, it's really good, and it's the next best thing to water. Stay away from drinks like gatorade, and propel and other fitness drinks as they contain way to much sodium. Not to good for ol' ticker ya know, and by drinking or eating salt/sodium, your body will begin to retain water, and you also don't want that.
After lunch, mid-afternoon, I always take in a 12oz glass of whey, chocolate is the best flavour, if you consider trying it. You should also consider taking in an anti-oxidant, I recommend Alpha-Lipoic Acid. Do some research on it, you'd be amazed at how much this fits right in with you your diet.
I usually eat dinner around 4 or 5pm, something light, as it's my last meal of the day. No carbs for dinner though ... meaning potatoes, pasta, rice.... none of that, as we don't want it settling there for the remainder of the night. Try taking in some meat/fish along with some vegetables fir for dinner. You'll feel better, trust me.
After dinner, is when I do my workouts, your's of course will vary. If you can or can't do all that much, try riding a bike around the block, or a nice brisk walk. It will increase your heart-rate, and you'll burn some good calories off.
After my workout, I take in another 12oz glass of whey, followed by a few other supplements, you will not need these, as I'm sure you're trying to lose weight. All in all, try the whey/protein, and this is be good for you.
NO SNACKING at all during those tv hours. No matter how tempting, this is when what you eat will just sit in your stomach during the whole night , doing all sorts of evil things to your body.
Right before bedtime, and I mean like minutes before, take in your 3rd and final glass of whey. You'll sleep like a baby, and the good thing about it is the protein is working while you sleep.
You'll wake up refreshed, feel good about yourself for not snacking and putting on even more weight.
Then repeat the routine as mentioned, sort of like the movie Groundhog Day. You'll get used to the routine, and in no time, you'll not only be thinner, but healthier, With tons of energy to expel.

I'm by no means an
Adkin'sAtkin's advocate, or anything closely related. People have been eating this way long before the diet ever went mainstream. Some have perversed it along the way, which makes it even that much less valuable.
Bottom line is this, the more protein you take in, the more full you will feel, and the less you'll eat. It's been proven.
Now don't cut out carbs totally, your body will still need them, as mentioned before just take in less. And if you're at a meal with the full setting, .... meat , potatoes, veggies - try taking in your proteins first, followed by the vegetable. save the starches/carbs for last. I betcha you won't finish them.
-
Actually, his best bet is fresh fruits and vegetables. And although water is very 'plain' it's the best thing for you.
Crystal Light is artificially sweetened, and those things are very, very bad for you.
Although protein gives you a 'full' feeling, too much protein is bad for you. Yes, you'll lose weight, but at a cost. Your body breaks down the protein, causing the pH level of your blood to become acidic. Your body counters this by leaching your bones of calcium.
-
Crystal Light is artificially sweetened, and those things are very, very bad for you.
You are correct ! All of them but 1 are artificially flavoured. The CrystalLight lemonade is the only Naturally flavoured drink in that line.
As far as fresh fruits and vegetables. There is such a thing as bad fruit, and also bad vegetables. Some of them contain their own sugars, which like you said, are not healthy.
-
You're confusing 'artificially sweetened' with 'artificially flavoured'. The sweetner is likely the stuff found in Nutrasweet, or it could be sucralose, I haven't looked in a while. It's *bad* for you.
As for the sugars found in fruit, it all depends on the fruit, and how much of it you eat. Eating a bushel of apples in one sitting would be really dumb, as the sugar content would be completely overwhelming (and make you really sick from eating a bushel of apples). A bunch of banannas wouldn't be terribly bad, but you should offset it with other fruits, but lots of veggies.
-
Honestly Peale , I'm not confusing anything. The Only Crystal Light I drink is the lemonade, and I know a little about that one.
FWIW though, we're all just offering the guy advice. He doesn't have to take it. I do know this for sure, if he followed my routine, he would be losing weight in no time, and notice how I also mention supplements would aid in that loss.
Now I came to BYOAC not knowing a whole helluva lot about vids, and getting them going with a PC, but I learned, and I still am learning.
-

That's only going to happen if he goes to like 90% protein for his intake. He won't do that unless he lives off plain chicken breasts and tuna and literally nothing else.
And since when did protein make you feel full? I lived off mostly protein for years when I was a competitive lifter and probably felt full about once on a straight protein meal.
You guys are making this WAY more daunting for him than it needs to be. He's a healthy man in his early 20s, no permanent injuries or health conditions. He's not obese. His metabolism hasn't even slowed much yet. All he needs to do is stop being sedentary 7 days a week. Get off his ass, join a basketball team, swim some laps, go hiking, whatever, just go out and do something. He does that and he can go back to having an average 22 year old's diet and be just fine.

When you get home, let me know what it's sweetened with. I am now officially curious.
-
When you get home, let me know what it's sweetened with. I am now officially curious.
Splenda, which is a sucralose sweetener.
-

Splenda, which is a sucralose sweetener.
Which is *far* from natural as you can get. Also happens to be the one and only thing I'm allergic to.
-
I always look at it this way. This applies to EVERYONE.
Everyone in this entire world will loose weight at the END.
Yes its true, when your time is UP, YOU WILL LOOSE ALL THAT WEIGHT :)
Trust me, its been proven
-
check the label again ... there is NO splenda in the lemonade crystal light.
now the lipton lemonade does have splenda, i've seen it in the store, but that's no comparison to CL
-
Their website says that the Crystal Light bottles, which includes Lemonade, has Splenda in it.
EDIT: ah, the mixes have aspartame, so much better.
Some Crystal Light products do contain aspartame. If a product contains aspartame, it will be listed in the ingredient line.
The aspartame (APM) content of our Sugar Free Drink Mixes ranges from 75-140 mg per 8-fluid ounce serving.
-
DUDE ... read the page
Crystal Light bottles contain sucralose sweetener (also known as SPLENDA) instead of Aspartame.
ONLY the premade bottles contain splenda.
Christ .... how the hell did this become a debate?
-
Either way, the point was that it contains gargage artificial sweeteners that are terrible for you. Apsartame, sucralose, they're both to be avoided.
-

Why? I happen to enjoy Apsartame, sucralose, and bacon sammiches every day.
-
I have no problem with the bacon... I like bacon. Sucralose and aspartame are bad. Bacon is natural and yummy...
...unless you were to cook it in sucralose or aspartame.
-
If I would have known that offering someone a little bit of advice would have lead to this, I probably would have kept my mouth closed.
I mean hell, it's not like any one of us can monitor his progress anyway.
I'm not gonna argue over sugar. What for ....
I'm sure we can all agree the best sugar comes from our other half anyway.
-
thanks everyone for your advice.. i will try out some things and see how they work. I think a main thing besides my diet is that im not very active. Its not like im fat either i just had a little gut appearing and it was bothering me since ive always been pretty average build

FOCLMAO!
Sucralose supposedly isn't absorbed by the body, it's used to sweeten, and you crap it out, but I'm leery of anything companies produce that's supposed to be sweeter than sugar.
-
There's a sweetener out there thatis better for you than aspartame, or nutra-sweet, or sucralose.
It's called REAL SUGAR!
Real sugar is made inside a living plant, not a chemical plant. Sure, it might make your kids hyper, make you fat and rot your teeth, but you're probably going to get fat anyway, we've got great dentists in the USA, and kids are supposed to run around in circles- it's fun! Those other chemical things are just tumors waiting to happen.
Sometimes the cure is worse than the disease!

Back to the reason of this thread:
I'd like to lose about 20 pounds, but I'll have a hard time not eating.
I was watching a show about Bulimia and I was thinking to myself: Self, if this teenage girl has the control and will power to 'purge' after every meal you should be able to.
But alas, I can't do it, just thinking of vomiting makes me want to vomit...
So it

Go to Tjiuana and take up the all water diet.
Contract Dyssentary.
-
drinking artificial sweetners is way better than consuming HUNDREDS of calories of sugary soda. some people are really scared of anything not natural ;) just go to a diet website with calorie calculator if you want to see how many calories you need to eat to lose weight. i would try low calorie if you do any diet first in my opinion.
-
Skip the soda. Try water. Mmm. Wet.
-
Aspartame seems to have some sort of link to Alzheimers, and possible spongiform of the brain in humans.
Saccharin, in large enough quantities, when given to rats, caused cancer, if I remember correctly.
Not being a rat, saccharin scares me less than aspartame. Aspartame also gives off chemicals when heated moderately. By moderately, I mean less than the temperature a drink sweetened with it can reach when sitting inside a car on a hot day.
Splenda seems to be the best of the bunch, and WAS used way back when, before the FDA mandated more testing for it.
Still, I'm with Kremmit. I prefer the thing that comes from a living, rather than chemical, plant.
True enough, the sugar is more likely to ADD weight to a person, but if you can't string together a coherent sentence in your 50's or 60's because you're afflicted with Alzheimer's, you most likely can't remember why it was that you were so concerned with your weight in the first place.
Get fat. You can always diet. You can't reverse the effect certain chemicals have on the human body. I suppose if you feel being unable to remember your spouse or kids is better, have at those artificial chemicals.
Water - the best medicine. Don't like it? Get a filter - Brita or something like that....reverse osmosis is pricey but dynamite.
p.s. not eating makes your body store stuff it thinks is vital to maintaining its health as long as possible. Soon it eats into those things too. Watch how much weight you GAIN when you resume your normal eating habits.

Now, danny doesn't like my hat, but I don't like his slack-jawed yokel expression, or his limp wrist position he highlited by holding that blue cup, but at least we're looking on the bright side of things ;) ;D
-
Wow, so this is why the USA can make TV shows about people losing weight and make it seem exciting? ;D
(a) Exercise.
(b) Don't buy food anywhere other than a market.
(c) Don't compare yourself to *ANYONE*.
Instant purchases are my problem. These people spend MILLIONS of dollars working out how to trick your brain into WANTING to eat the McCrap. I know I don't have that kind of will-power, so I just try to stay the hell away from their food court during the day and MAKE something at home whenever I can.
And the reason why rational people jump on "lifestyle X" people is because they're lying. Nobody gets fat eating fresh fruit, bread rolls and riding to work each day. They get fat eating a whole lot of junk spat out of a chemical vat, and then wonder why they have to go to war against their own biological process. >:(
Plus, making your own lunch has the added bonus of keeping your $$$$ to spend on arcade machines!

that was a damn fine day in kittyhawk though. i ll remember it forever bro!! even though they wouldnt let you on the dc3 joyflight because of 'weight & balance issues'...
-
See, I never understood that.
If you look at that picture, I'm perfectly capable of balancing with all that weight. If you'll notice, I've strategically placed the majority of it around my midsection, and CLEARLY I understand weight distribution. I've put it where it'll do the most good, hiding my poor taste in footwear, and hiding my "manhood", lest I develop a BIGGER ego! ;)
Curse those fun-nazi's!
Oh, and thanks for going up without me.....if only I'd have had my laser pointer to shine in your eyes
-
These people spend MILLIONS of dollars working out how to trick your brain into WANTING to eat the McCrap.
it doesn't take millions to convince ME that french fries taste better than rice cakes!
-
Yeah, but McDonald's french fries are about so far away from what you'd call a real french fry.
Has anyone seen "SuperSize Me?" On the DVD extras, they take several McD sandwiches and a container of frys, and place them into separate glass containers, and allow them to break down.
As a 'control' they included a burger and fries from a diner down the street. The kind of place they make everything by hand.
In two weeks time the McDs sandwiches were a little moldy, but quite obviously sandwiches. The control burger had broken down massively.
The McD's french fries? They looked *exactly* the same, two weeks later.
The experiment continued for eight more weeks. The sandwiches continued breaking down.
The McD's fries? Looked exactly the same, ten weeks later.
-
The McD's fries?
-
That's NOTHING.
Do this for an experiment. I'm not trying to gross you out with this, but you'll think twice before ordering another one......first pick whatever fast food joint you want - McD's, BK, Arby's.....anyone who has an ice cream or shake machine.
Buy one so you can enjoy the last one you'll be able to stomach before doing this experiment. Buy an extra, make it a small, don't waste too much on this.
Drink your shake. Take the other one home. Pour it into a glass and set it somewhere you'll see, but isn't in the way. Let it sit for a week, two weeks if you really wanna make sure the experiment clears up the issue for you.
After two weeks, if you are still willing to drink that "shake", let me know. I never want to have an "eat this" contest with you.
-
i have another way to lose weight. just have a whole bunch of a-hole customers who string out their payments for weeks and months. soon you'll be eating ham and cheese sandwiches for lunch and dinner just like me!
-
That's NOTHING.
So share...what happens?
But at the end of a day I wouldn't want to drink a dairy product that's been sitting around, shake or no. Pour a glass of milk and let it sit for a couple weeks. Yum!
I don't drink milk. Nasty stuff.
-
There's no dairy in a fast food shake. It's almost all gelatin.
-
Chad's right. It separates like those sediment experiments you did in science class!
I started going to a place where I could see them make the shake. Ice Cream, fruit, cream, blend. While it may also do the same thing, I've never been able to resist leaving one of THOSE sit long enough to see it separate like a Mickey D's shake!
I haven't been able to order a shake mix shake or ice cream from a squirt-it-out machine since.
I know milk separates too, but I'm a little better able to deal with THAT. There's at least a semblance of stuff that looks like the product you start with. There's NOTHING in those shakes that looks like the original product.
-
There's no dairy in a fast food shake.
-
that explains why even though im lactose-intolerant i can enjoy a BK shake without too many side-effects...
Same here, if you change the verb.
-
at least 1 gallon a day, 2 if you can manage
2 gallons of water a day? Is your stomach susposed to explode and you'll loose the weight that way?
Jokes aside, wouldn't you spend the entire day pissing if you drank that much water

Yeah ... you'll make a few trips to the head, but that much intake is needed. Instead of the norm being 8-12 glasses a day, it has been upped to no less than a gallon, and 2gals.
The following is quoted from another website, directed at body reconditioning.
As a bodybuilder, you are putting much more nutrients, food, supplements, and other stuff into your body. What your body does not use, it must rid itself of by any means necessary. Usually it does this via water. So drinking plenty of water becomes a necessity. Increasing protein puts a strain on your body and drinking lots of water can keep things "moving." Creatine monohydrate supplementation requires a lot of water. Creatine is all about cell volumization. Making sure your cells are completely hydrated helps with the volumization process. NO2, a hemodilator, requires water. Many other supplements require water as a transport and a flushing method.
So where some might have disagreements, or do things slightly different, it's not as far fetched as you think.
The end result is to achieve whatever physical goal you have placed before you, and the road taken can be different for us all.
It's all a little different. Body types and such, and what the person is looking to do.
-
Lest people think that the answer is to drink ourselves silly in order to regulate our bodies, it IS possible to drink too much water, and it CAN become deadly. There ARE cases written on this subject, and there IS a limit for water intake.
Just as too little water can make a person delirious and cause problems you'd never think to associate with water intake, too much can cause just as big a problem.
-
yeah well umm, i ended up joining a gym this week. im working out mon-wed-fri, and limiting myself to 2 fast food meals a week right now, which is hard for me since i used to eat it all the time. but i think im doing good. the weight i lost from stress/not eating is staying off because im actually exercising and stuff now.. soon i hope itll start being toned
-
Lest people think that the answer is to drink ourselves silly in order to regulate our bodies, it IS possible to drink too much water, and it CAN become deadly.
-
While I understand your attempt at humor, your ignorance on the subject is anything BUT funny.
Since you seem to not want to believe it just because it "sounds stoopid" because it comes from me, I'll provide you with links to the subject, and also for others to check this out for themselves, since they may take your view of my information as gospel.
Now, coming from an eating disorder site, they have something else they're trying to get at, but I'll START with them http://eatingdisordersonline.com/nutritional/water.php (http://eatingdisordersonline.com/nutritional/water.php)
I'll quote the pertinent facts:
When you have prolonged excessive water intake. Excessive fluid intake can be dangerous because:
* 1. It can dilute the electrolytes in your blood and cause a low sodium in the blood.
* 2. Excessive urination can flush out electrolytes, minerals, etc. Symptoms of fluid overload include a gradual mental dulling, drowsiness, weakness, confusion, coma, convulsions and death.
Next, we'll go to an actual reported case, as seen here: http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/news/nation/10821619.htm?1c (http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/news/nation/10821619.htm?1c) Say what you wish to about the circumstances, the FACT is that the cause of death was attributed to excessive water consumption.
Medical staff at marathons and Iron Man competitions address the problem you paint as "me knowing shite". I guess these guys should ALSO "stick to things they know, as MEDICAL KNOWLEDGE clearly aren't these DOCTORS' specialties" (http://www.azstarnet.com/dailystar/printSN/55466.php)
Here you go, from Joe Friel author of the "Training Bible" series of books, speaking of hydration and exercise. I know, I know, another guy you probably ridicule in an attempt to make your opinion the de facto standard. Soon, you'll be writing your own books and having your own equipment sold on late night T.V. (http://www.canuckrunner.com/fluidsendurance.php)::)
Oh, and finally, from the National Library of Medicine...you know, guys who SHOULD have an idea of what they're talking about...lemme guess, first rate hacks you wish you could debate to put to rest their foolish theory...more reports of this "mythical phenomenon" you deride (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=12053855&dopt=Abstract)
It's called, in case you can't be bothered to read the staggering amount of information available from a simple Google search, hyponatremia, and it exists, whether you choose to acknowledge it or not.
I wasn't telling someone drinking a few extra glasses each day will kill them, I was pointing out that it CAN be overdone, and the results can be DEADLY, in other words, YOU CAN DIE.
Dismissing these facts in an attempt to be funny paints you as thinking yourself an expert and unwilling to learn because you think you're more learned on the subject, and ignores the fact that people may interpreting your advice in ways you never imagined, with potentially fatal consequences.
This isn't a "lower taxes" or "war bad, peace good" debate, it's an honest-to-goodness problem that you seem to have obviously never heard of and therefore think it foolish. Some research on your part is in order.
*edited for vitriol*

Sage advice Drew.
I saw that where a college student who died recently that was forced to drink too much water and exercise. He went into cardiac arrest because his electrolytes were diluted to the point his involuntary nervous system failed.
I know now why I always failed, I was using BEER to do it.
what was it this guy said?
Why not try sticking to something you might have some clue about, it's obvious that politics, religion, physical health & well being, and arcade controls are not your specialty!
Man, talk about failing your Dale Carnegie course.
-
Here you go, from Joe Friel author of the "Training Bible"... (http://www.canuckrunner.com/fluidsendurance.php)
From the article:
Sports drinks containing not only sodium but also carbohydrate will keep you well hydrated, maintain sodium levels and help prevent low glycogen levels that can result in bonking.
What?!?!? :o Waiter, more water please, and damnit man keep 'em coming! :-*
(not knocking the article, but what does that word mean in Canada?)
-
LMAO! It didn't even register with me! Bonking is a term for the phrase "hitting the wall"....kinda like you just can't go anymore.
-
If I remember correctly from a nutrition class I had years ago it's very difficult to drink enough water to disrupt your ph balance unless you're also doing heavy excercising all the time. Something about sweating out salt. That's, as I understand it, why sports drinks are better for hydrating athletes than water.
But yeah....I think it takes ridiculously ginormous amounts of water to have any negative effect on your electrolytes, but I'm pretty sure that it can be done, and has been quite a few times.
-
That kid that died from drinking too much water was in Chico, Ca.. about an hour from me. It's true, I assure you, they can't seem to get if off the news around here. And yes, he was doing excercises as well, but you don't HAVE to be excercising to suffer from water intoxication. I remember reading about it a while back on some site that promotes "legal highs"- apparently some people do it on purpose to get messed up. And some of them over-do it and die, and a lot of them wreck their bladders.
-
Man, I'm telling you this is a subject I know a LOT about. Creatine is useless. All it does is cause you to retain more water. That's also why it causes you to need more water. Stop using creatine and any 'gain' you experienced while on it is gone in two weeks. It's just not useful.
-
Huh! How about that!
Chalk all these replies up to just one more thing I know $#!7 about ::)
Zod, if you make it back here, perhaps you'll need help removing your foot from your mouth. Go ahead and ask. It's another one of those things I can help you with! 8)
