Title: Advice on Sony TV...
Post by: lokki on January 22, 2005, 10:42:40 pm
Hi,
Hope some one here can give me some input.

I have a sony WEGA 32" TV (model kv-32fs12). The set is close to 4 years old.
A couple of days again it started to ignore commands from the remote control or from the set buttons.
This wasn't too terrible since the volume was set at a good level and to change the channels we use the Cable box. But it has gotten to be annoying can't change the input source (for DVD) and i guess we do need to lower the volume.

While playing with it I noticed that if I hit the menu button (on the set remote can't get to work). The menu will come up but it will be quickly looping though all the options. I figured the problem was a stuck button but they all seem fine.

I opened the set today hoping I could fix it, but mechanically everything seems fine, but did not know what to about checking the boards.

Any idea how much it would cost to get this fixed?
Is it worth it? or just get a new one? (similar TVs are around $350.00 originally it cost me $800)
If I get a new one what should I do with the old one? screen quality is very good.

If you go the buy a new one route....and what to do with the old one.  There was a post on here about turning a TV into a arcade monitor...didn't seem like there was a lot to it....but I haven't tried it either ;D   But a 32" arcade monitor...could be cool.
Good Luck

Thanks for the tip.
Never dealt with TV repair so hope some one has an idea about their rates.

Thanks
