I'm in the process of making a converted joust cocktail cabinet into a Marvel themed cabinet. Progress is posted below.
BTW, here is a picture of the the converted cabinet (as purchased).
-
is this going to be for fighting games? thats a really weird cabinet if you planed on doing like marvel vs capcom on it. if you mean that for like side scrollers i guess its ok
i prefer the marvel madness
-
marvel madness....
-
That's a nice cabinet. It seems to be in excellent condition?
I prefer the name Marvel Madness.
-
I would personally leave it generic like it is and clean it up. Super generic cabs have a lot to offer aesthetically.
Replace those playchoice joysticks with some real ones though.
-
Thanks all. I'm not going to go crazy or anything. Just some custom overlays and I'm going to replace the laminate with something a little bit more original (read: darker). Control Panel overlays are done. This is what they'll look like:
-
Captain Americade has already been done..
Marvel Madness is better.
-
I like Captain Americade, but I named my cab RoboMame so what do I know? The CP overlays look fantastic, specially the Cap America one!

Thanks dmsuchy. I like the Capt. America one too. That's one of the reason's I was thinking of turning the entire cab into the Captain Americade. I think I'm going to go with MARVEL MADNESS though. Now on to the instruction cards!
-
Yeh, I'm partial to the Captain Americade, but I've been there done that. I'm flattered though....

Here's the original...

Isn't that a Joust cocktail? Rare bird.
I would turn it back into a Joust Cocktail! :o

I'm doing my best to restore as much as possible to the original. I've removed the replacement laminate and I'll be replacing it with a close match to the original.
The control panels that were on the cab when I got it were not original. With some help from Kelsey (Oscar Controls) I was able to get an idea of how the original ones were constructed. Thus, I'll be building a second set to match the original design.
It really was sad to see a nice classic cab converted like this but that is exactly what I was looking for.
The cab itself was converted to Jamma so there were no original Williams parts so I don't feel so bad not restoring right now.
Thanks,
Todd

Okay It's been a while since I posted an update.
The control panels from the conversion were shot. Kelsey (Oscar Controls) was kind enough to take some measurements off of his Joust cocktail project so that I could recreate the control panels based on the original design.

Do the Street Fighter EX games you have listed play at full speed? If so what settings do you have set in Mame and what are your system specs?
-
As promised, I'm attaching pictures of the finished cps.
-
Instruction Card done!
-
Looks good. I've always wanted one of those. I've always been a fan of the Joust cocktail and I'm a huge Spidey fan, so it seems to me you're on the right track. TAKE PLENTY OF PICS!
P.S. In what city do you live? Do you lock your doors?
-
that's looking pretty sweet, you could maybe go with an Avengers theme... considering the new Avengers has Spidey, Cap, Ironman, Wolverine, Sentry, Spider-woman, Cage and I think that's it... plus you can go with all the other characters who've ever been Avengers... and there was the Avengers game that I liked a lot. You could go and do something like that with a bit of an updated theme....
-
"Avengers Assemble" might be a name consideration. Doesn't have a ring to it though.
Off topic, but Golden Tee 2K works in MAME? I thought that you had to get the PC game version?
-
Your artwork is going to get horked with your dust washers on the top like that.
-
Spent a lot of time over the weekend laminating the sides, painting, wiring, etc. and here it is nearly complete. I ordered a new coin door from Ponyboy and had to recreate a lexan plate for P1 and P2 start buttons since the conversion hacked up the original. Take a look at the before and after pic.
Final pics to come later
Peale: I realize the dust washers are not ideal, but it was the too intimidating to get out the router for that job and put a lexan overlay.
Flampoo: I now lock my doors :)
