Title: Improve Gaming in XP
Post by: DrewKaree on January 16, 2005, 03:01:01 pm
Dunno if this would help for MAME, but for standard gaming, it might.

Check it out for yourself - my XP box is being set up for my jukebox, and it didn't make a difference for that application that was noticable.

Game XP (http://theorica.click-now.net/gamexp.htm)

There has been a report of browser hijack software bundled in with this.  I can neither confirm nor deny this.  Since it didn't make a difference on mysetup, I deleted it.  Will download again to see for myself.

If you're so inclined, give it a whirl, see what you think.

I posted this here because it doesn't seem to be MAME and MAME related software, which seems to be what should be posted in the Software forum.  I can't report this to a mod (it says it doesn't make sense) so if someone reads this, can they report it so it can be put/left where it should be?

Tanx, tanx a lot.

just taking the time to read up on the os , running the normal defrags etc and stopping unessary services should be plenty ... i avoid any software that change things i dont know about , 3 months from now somthing may go screwy like dvd's wont play or somthing ( problem i'm having now ) and it will take a week to trace it down to some dumb app i installed and forgot about , or worse , installed then uninstalled and it left some dll somewhere messing up everything ...

this of course doesnt mean i wont do a system state save and fiddle with it anyway  ;)

looks like abandonware..
the program is optimised to work with directx 7 cards..
considering we a re at directx 9c now with a whole newpixel shader scheme im a bit skeptical about this programs capabilities.

This is sort of the same as XPLite or LiteXP (whatever). Almost everything that this program does, you can do so manually.

That being said, I do like XPLite. It sped my WinXP startup to 17 seconds. I'm going to try this on a virtual machine and see what happens.

READ IN BEFORE RUNNING THIS PROGRAM:
Spybot identified an attempted registry change while running this program.  It attempted to install a browser hijack, the infamous "Search Assistant" modification.  If you don't know what that is, Google it.  I've dealt with this issue before, had to reformat my HD to get rid of it, very nasty program.  Thought y'all should know.  ARCADIAC!

You worked on Coolspot? That was quite a decent game on the Amiga.

Any chance of a PS2 version  ;D

HELLO is there anybody in here?  The cool spot stuff is really neat but
please keep in mind that the thread originated by Drew (unintentionally I'm sure) passing on some software that has a form of browser hijack/spyware really should be addressed.  I just dealt with a similar, more costly, issue here:

Some less tech savvy, like me, might not like the search assistant hijack that comes with this program.  Maybe modify the first post so more folks would be aware?
Thanks all, ARCADIAC!

Probably only comes in the free version. Still, any modern virus/spyware program should make a short process of it.

Sorry to hear about the dialer virus Arcadiac.
