I actually really *suck* at arcade games, I am building a cabinet to get better.

No bounties for me......yet.

Hi:

I am one of the Twin Galaxies referees offering these "Bounties" this year. I did a Google search to see which gaming sites the article posted to, found this one, and I'm now taking the time to answer your immediate queries.

As for "Defender", back in the 1980's there were so many titles around that players could marathon...6, 12, 24 hours at a clip and more...that Twin Galaxies adopted what we call "Tournament Settings". These settings are to allow for a challenging opportunity at a game that typically in the hands of an expert would take quite a few hours to finish. In this case, the tournament settings produced a much smaller score of 230K.

We have similiar settings in place for many of the classics of yesteryear such as "Stargate", "Robotron", "Joust", "Missile Command" and "Q*Bert"...and many more.

Of interesting note is that we have on record, having kept track of records since 1981, quite a few performances in excess of 48+ hours, including one performance on a single game of more than 85 hours. Some gamers play until they literally fall asleep !!

As for the "Track and Field" bounty, please remember that the rules are that the game cannot "loop", meaning it ends afer the last event. Marathon settings allow gamers to keep on going, and the world record for that is well over 2 million points.

Thanks for the interest in our bounties for 2005. I hope to see some bounty submissions coming from the gamers on this site. Best of luck to one and all.

One of my new year's resolutions is to own 4 TG records by the end of the year.

They will not be prestigious ones... but I will at least have held 4 by the end of the year.
