Title: Reasonable DDR Pad X-box
Post by: rampy on January 10, 2005, 01:08:11 pm
Please forgive the noob question.  I don't even play DDR (yet)... but the wife has expressed interest, and I finally landed a free xbox (http://www.randomdrivel.com/Topic42.html), so... =)

I'm sure all the hardcore arcade DDR players will only settle for an uber steel industrial strength DDR pad... but is there a "good" (or good enough) soft/commercial, reasonably priced DDR pad out on the market?

Thanks in advance...

I got one for Xmas that was about $40 from Best Buy. It has connectors for both Xbox and PS2. It's really sensitive and works awesome.

as an advanced player, i would settle for nothing less than a metal pad. starting out i bought a bundle which had 2 konami official soft pads, and they were decent. one of them started giving ghost bads, and basicly was trash. the other one was decent, after i taped it to a piece of plywood id say its accuracy increased 10 fold.

also there is a mod you can do , cut open the plastic pad and put hard anything, preferably plexiglass squares over the button contacts and it makes the pad a lot better.

i bought a "MyMyBox" brand pad off ebay years ago, before DDR was super popular and there were people making commercial metal pads, and the thing is still solid and works great and was only like 150$ shipped.

Not a DDR fan, but the kids are.  They burned through a pair of the soft pads in a matter of weeks.  Bought a metal pad off ebay for them for Christmas, and they have been stomping away at it since.  I'm more afraid of them landing in the garage below their room than wearing out that metal pad!

The ignition type pads available at levelsix.com run less than $50, and I've been using mine for over a year and a half at this point.  They make a good middle ground between the expensive metal pads and the flimsy soft mats.

well looking for a soft pad as this is a "pull out from under the couch" type storage operation and not a "metal pad left out like my cabinet" operation... =)

any other "soft" or "semi-rigid" pad suggestions?  (that one site seems to be back ordered)

Here's the cheapskate solution...   ;)

Tape a cheap $20 pad to a sheet of plywood and they'll last quite a bit longer. They work better too... no scrunching or sliding. Just stash it behind your cab when it's not in use.

If that doesn't do ya just spring the $100 for a dual platform (XB/PS2) Red Octane Ignition from Gamestop/Funco/SoftEct.

The back order notice was from over 4 weeks ago.  They're in stock now:
