Post by: lucindrea on December 30, 2004, 04:25:48 pm

or soul edge , anyone know if their has been any progress on it? .. i know tha zinc does an ok job and mame is also ok ( think iit uses the same engine ) .. but i also know that no one has been able to work out the sound issues ,  chanka is almost playable but another update of that looks to be a while off...
this is just one of my favorite more "modern" games ( i.e. post 1980's )  , and i would love to acctully be able to  play it on my cab.

There are ways to hook up consoles to arcade machines....

Or even emulators that run the games on PC.

If Soul Calibur is your thing then I strongly suggest you buy a Dreamcast.

The Dreamcast version is excellent.

Indeed! I highly recomend it. They even made it look better then the arcade, it's really something.

The DreamCast also has the only arcade perfect conversion of Marvel VS Capcom 2, just with a little button lag.

If you have a fast machine Chankast works well. I think Howard even has a wrapper for it.

My machine is not fast enough.  :'(

i have a DC , and a broadband adaptor ( where do you think i got the image for chankast ) , just hooking up the dreamcast in the cabinet makes for a messy front end .. how would i launch the DC game from a FE?  Chanka works well .. just at 20fps soul calaber is basicly unplayable ( ok it's playable , you just have 3 seconds to duck each punch the computer throws at ya ) this is with a xp +1800 and 512M of memory .. ya i could upgrade it , but right now my main concern is kepping the bills paid and who i wont be able to pay this month *sigh*

Yeah, XP2000 here, and it's just not enough to emulate that little 200mhz DC.  :P

ya one of the fastest computers in the world ( somthing like 4tfps )  is just 1 custom chip hard wired to do 1 math problem ( compute the gravational pull of stars in global clusters ) .. thing doesnt even have an os , just an input and an output ... listed as one of the fastest computers in the world , but would probly take 15 mins to render the window for notepad.

makes idea of  "having the right tool for the job" have whole new meaning.
