Title: Anyone use presentation displays?
Post by: Hoany on December 27, 2004, 12:25:01 pm
Anyone that is using or has used a presentation display for MAME such as those by Monivision, NetTV, etc., please let me know your results?

I can get a used 27 inch Monivision pretty cheap from someone if I want it. I was thinking of replacing the setup in my cab now which is a Toshiba TV with an s-video connection.

I know the Monivision wont have arcade (scanline) quality, but Im thinking its gotta be better than s-video?

Thanks

I think you'll be more limited by the output signal from your video card than you will be with the capability of that monitor.

Shouldn't that monitor have RGB inputs?

It has a standard 15 pin VGA type input.
Also I believe it has up to 1024x768 resolution and a horiz. resolution of 31.5khz to 52 khz.

So use that, don't bother with Svideo.

I was definitely going to use the VGA input, but just wondered how anyone else has made out using these displays. I assume it would be as reliable as a computer monitor in displaying games in MAME? In other words, it should be able to display various resolutions with ease. I normally use MAME32 with hardware stretch on the TV anyway.

I have a presentation monitor but haven't really gotten around to trying it yet.  I suspect you're going to have to at least amplify the AVGA output to 5v and possibly more.
