Title: what does "decrypted C" mean???
Post by: Tritoch84 on December 19, 2004, 03:40:25 pm
When I see roms with a version that says "decrypted C", is this good? which one would I want to play? which one would be more true to the arcade?

To my knowledge, only nebula and kawaks use these roms.  What it is, is a decryption hack used for some neogeo games.  It's a way to play the games when the "XoR" table's (and i use that term loosely as only cps2 roms have true XoR tables) decryption pattern isn't broken yet.  It should have little to no effect on the gameplay or how accurate the emulation is (as the decrypiton process is at bootup).

As all neogeo games are decrypted at this point, I find it a little silly that these versions still exist and that the emulators still support these hacked versions.

Don't these also allow you to use NeoRage and other older emulators?

Never used them myself... But I've heard a bunch of emul authors ---smurfette--- about them.

NeorageX only, and then it's only a 50-50 shot that they'll work.  This is due to the fact that neorage will try to load anything and the decrypted C versions are pre-decrypted.  Unfortunatley, half of them have strange bootup sequences which require an additional hack.  So long story short, no they don't as you need hacked versions of the already hacked dec C versions.
