Title: Cocktail 1p 2p orientation question
Post by: atog on November 22, 2004, 03:26:40 pm
I am getting ready to attach the 1p and 2p control panels onto my scratch built cocktail machine and I don't want to mess up and put them on the wrong sides.

The problem is I don't have the computer stuff set up yet to verify which way it goes, so if someone who has a cocktail machine can check this for me, that would be a big help.

Looking at the monitor from a normal horizontal view, when you have MAME running in cocktail mode, does the 1P person sit on the left side of the monitor, or the right side?

Thanks.

1p is on the left side - at least that's how it defaults for me...

Actually it depends on how the monitor is oriented in the cabinet. If the base of the monitor is against the rear of the cabinet then looking from the front of the cabinet the player 1 station would be on the left end.

i guess it reall does not matter cause thats what ROR and ROL are for.

But it does matter if your using a front end. Most front ends don't rotate (a few do or are working on it). So your front end is usually orientated the same as the Operating System. However, you are correct about the ROR and ROL parameters. You can use MinWAH's AVGA resolution tool to automatically create an INI file for every Mame game automatically. You will probably want to check it out when you get to that point.

Good luck,

Just run mame on your pc and see what happens.

You should REALLY get at least some of the software setup on your pc before starting a hardware project.

And it will take 10 minutes.

but you really might want to spend 20 bucks on an old ATI radeon board or Geforce board that handles rotation through hardware.  This will make everything MUCH easier and you don't have to worry about the frontends.

Actually, you want autoROR or AUTOROL in mame.  The default for a game differs depending on how the programmers programmed it.
