I am asking about protection ...
Is there a way to make any frontend secure,One day my friend ask
me to copy all my stuff in his Computer.I don't like to do that because
i know he will not just copy for him self but make it very common for gain profit.
any one has an idia ?

Find some friends you can trust?
You could always set a BIOS password on the computer using keystrokes that you can do from the control panel... Maybe the old Konami code?
-
the only way to secure a PC is literally..
if you cant physically keeps someone hands off of it ,then its not secure..
grue hit it right the first time...find some new friends 8)
-
Find new friends. Or just tell them no.

I don't think it's his friends that he's worried about.
If you read through Kahn's posts he seems to have an scheme to build "arcade mame" machines.
I would just go into MAMEwah, make the menu command a keystroke that the CP doesn't have, and enclose the keyboard in the cab, or unplug it altogether.
Easy money.

Yup, that's what I do. Also, unplug it from the network if you really want to be pedantic about it.

sorry i did'nt mention it at all.
i am asking how to secure our (roms, frontend, emulator).
Suppose i have an open Pc,main thing is hard-disk.If any one get
my hard-disk without my permission.and copy all my data in his own
hard disk than he will get a bonos.
the second arcade machine will be ready.
every shake hand never make friend.

So you're afraid people are actually going to walk away with your computer or hard drive? You really need to get new friends then.
You could encrypt the data on the hard drive though, password protection, etc etc.

Don't feel bad man, it wasn't meant as an attack, just cutting to the chase. Sorry if I was wrong. I cross refrenced this topic with the PSX emu topic where you were asking how to credit PSX games and another one where you were talking about arcades in your country using low cost PCs and emulators as arcade machines.
So that behind us...
The idea is, you want to only let your friend copy certain files on a network? Because that doesn't have jack to do with your FE man. Just make only your ROMS/Emu/FE Directory (or whatever directory you want) shared.
Setting up a network doesn't automatically open the door to your hard drives darkest secrets unless you unlock the door.
Remember tho, ROMS are not legal to sell or make available to the public for profit. ;D

Wait, you are afraid someone is going to STEAL or COPY the data you STOLE in the first place?
Sorry, that is rediculous. Utterly rediculous.
-
How can someone get your harddrive without your permission? I'm missing something here...
Are you selling a mame machine?
-
Hmmm, reading over this guys OTHER post all I see is a "I haev all teh r0mz" guy, who is all about emulating the absolute newest stuff, and obviously wants to be way rad and cool leet and doesn't want his friends to be able to have the same things because they aren't cool enough to pirate the same stuff he did.

I'm glad someone said it! What do YOU care if he gets stuff from your harddrive? Would it make a difference if he just got a list of all the things you have, and downloaded them? Thats just silly, he has just as much right to that stuff as you do.
(Not to steal your hard drive, but to "own" what is stolen on it to begin with.)

Hi,
In Mexico there seems to be a very active MAME arcade for profit thing going on. A lot of people sell Configuration DVDs and preconfigured HD. That include ArcadeOS as the front end, and modified MAME (to add latest fighters/etc). Not sure how they do it. They copy protect all of the executables (arcadeos/mame/etc) so that they cannot be copied from one HD to another.
I wonder if this is what Khan is after.

in mamewah think there is key stroke that locks the menu access (think default is press 1+2 keys together)
-
It's hold down 2 for a few seconds.

There is an extremely easy way to prevent anyone from getting access to your data. Use a utility called FDISK. You can remove your hard drive's partition. This way no one can copy your data. It will also take care of the legality issue. ;)
-
I find keeping all you roms on a pen drive and keeping that hidden up your arse will keep your data safe in most cases, unless you are part of that whole promiscuous gay mexican rom scene, in which case I can't help you. ;D
