....I found this guy on EBay....
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=62053&item=8140541600
I bought one and my dopey brother bought 4 new ones......
If you really want a brand new sealed in box DC this guy came through. He seems to have an endless supply of these things as he refreshes his page weekly.
Now I have 2 used ones (paid $20 each at EB); my original one (picked up 9/9/99 thank you very much) and now this one for future selling/possible use.
DC--- BEST CONSOLE EVER!

PS- and yes obviously you can get a used DC for about $20...but a new one is much more fun!

only fear would be the version #..
after the initial release, 3 days later there was a major recall.all those defective DC's are sitting in a wharehouse somewhere waiting to flood the market with bad units...
otherwise, though, can never have enough dreamcasts..
DC RULES> its never been unplugged from my tv.
-
Do you remember what the recall was for? What was faulty?
-
.. ..I remember a recall for a few games that were burned incorrectly about a week after 9/9/99......but I don't recall (sorry for the pun) a recall on the DC itself.
Regardless...my new unit is marked 8/2000 manufacturing date so it was months after the initial launch. But I of course don't know about the others this dude has. :)
-
if i remeber correctly the firmware in the reader was no good. so the DC's wouldnt read the disks.
further compounded by the bad burn issues on some games, it was a shaky start..
i preordered my DC months ahead and paid 300.00$ bucks for the damned thing so i could have it the first day....
mine never exhibited any problems so i never returned it during the recall.
-
...was the DC $300? I thought I paid $200....wow I guess I forgot how expensive it was.....that makes the $20.00 I paid for the extra used ones I own that much sweeter!
-
;D yea, three hundred bucks was the going price at launch.
what a sucker i was!
dreamcast will always have a place under my television, hooked up ,powered and ready to go.. cant say that about my xbox or my GC.. i saw an article a short time ago stating that there a revival of sorts for the DC on the horizon ,say 1st quarter of 2005.
this is a complete dreamcast on a single core..(a faster core!!)

I remember just before they canned the Dreamcast, Sega America CEO Peter Moore announced Dreamcast on a chip, with future plans for OEMing to DVD, PVR, TV manufacturers. That was several years ago....and now Moore is VP at Micro$oft pushing Xbox :P.
Anyway, nice to read that finally someone is picking this up. That would be aswome if it ment new DC titles that were backward compatible with the original system.
-
Don't know if you ever heard of this problem. But I bought a Dreamcast early on, and after a few months the controllers quit working. Blew two more after this. Turns out it was a cheap aftermarket controller that was blowing the controller port out. Common problem, but I thought I would pass it on.
-
I remember when SEGA had their huge downfall after the DC and decided to stop making systems and focus on games, Wal-Mart had a sale selling Dreamcasts for $45 Canadian brand new, thats like $33 American :/ Shoulda jumped on that deal when I had the chance.

To chime in/confirm...
I don't remember a "major DC recall" 3 days after release. I do remember that some of the original launch titles had some defects and had to be exchanged in store tho.
DC did launch at $199.99, at least in my part of the world (California.)
I also still have a first day DC and have never had a controller issue. I do recall doing MANY returns on DC's for that reason tho. One guy SWORE that every controller we sold him was a defect until I made him bring in his console and showed him it was a blown controller port. Moron. ::)
-
the transisters blow in the controller ports from unplugging the controller when the system is plugged in... just simply open it up clip it and replace it...
also... there was no problem with any of the systems... there was a bad batch of sonic adventures going around from the original launch...
i still have mine in the original factory sealed wrap :)
-
It was Sonic, Hydro Thunder and Ready 2 Rumble all had bad pressings.
I got a bum Hydro Thunder.c :-\
I remember about 3 weeks of "no questions asked" exchanges. :P
