Im no expert, but I am pretty sure the ArcadeVGA is able to put out the correct resolution and refresh rate for MK machines.

Yes it does, at least to boot up.  But I can't see the bottom half of the screen when installing WinXP on a fresh HD, so I've put it off for a week or two until I can snag a monitor out of storage and start it up.  Thanks man.

i think only seeing the bottom half of the screen is an arcadevga problem and not your monitor.. it does the same thing on my tv using a direct cable.. you just have to remeber how to install windows blind..

hope that helps

Yeah, it's the card.  Not that hard to do it blind, but I ended up throwing an old Voodoo5 in to do it on a monitor.  Now to sell that dang Voodoo off...

OK, now I'm having some problems.  Here is the sitiuation, I've got the monitor up and going with a new AVGA.  Some games look and run fine, games like NEO GEO games.  Others, like 3wonders cause the screen to roll.  I fix this using the pot (although it screws up the other games and windows) but then it seems as though the bottom of the screen is folded on itself.  I have to shrink the screen down and at a point where it looks letter boxed, the whole game fits, although it's squished at the top and bottom.  Of course when I switch back to other type games, the entire screen is way to small.  Any idea what is going on?  Thanks.

It's actually a problem with the windows XP install program, which gets upset working at 15khz 'cause the drivers are broken. In any case, I found that when I tried to install Windows XP on an ArcadeVGA it would load the generic ATI drivers about 20 mins in and crash anyway.

Can anyone confirm if there is a way to do a successful install of WinXP on an AVGA? It would be a lot more convenient than having to swap out the card.

Well, it's easy if you just remember what to press.  The only part you can't see is when it says it wants to reformat the drive.  It starts on NTFS long format.  Move 1 down to do FAT 32 long, up one to do FAT32 quick and up two to do NTFS quick.  Other than that I think you can read and figure out the rest, at least I could as I've installed WinXP about 1000 times.

No, I can remember what to press  :). As I said, every WinXP install attempt I've ever tried with the AVGA actually *crashes* (BSOD) about 20 mins in when it tries to run the generic ATI drivers. But weirdly some people don't seem to have this happen - so I was just wondering if there's a trick. Surely it can't just be luck? Maybe different revisions of WinXP or the AVGA?

I've done it with SP1 and SP2 and they worked fine.  Don't know.  Maybe update your BIOS?

Xtra: I had the exact same problem with my AVGA and XP Pro.  It ended up being a driver problem, and unfortunately the only way I found to solve it was to re-format, reinstall windows and then install the AVGA driver again on a fresh windows install.  It was a major pain in the butt, but since doing this all games look great on my AVGA and D9200.

I think the Mortal Kombat games use 25Khz (Medium Res) monitors.  I am not sure if ArcadeVGA can output to it.  You may have to go with a Trident Blade card and AdvanceMAME.
