I started this project in July and have had just a blast building this thing! It is a UAII cab with artwork designed similiar to that seen on the cab in the movie "The Last Starfighter". The front-end has been designed to look like the targeting computer in the game. I have Centari's voice welcoming you when the game turns on. I had some minor setbacks here and there (don't spray Goof Off on Lexan), but it's done. I wanted to start on a cocktail cab, but I just can't find the time since I spend hour upon hour playing this with my 6 year old son and 3 year old daughter (they love World Class Bowling).
Anyway, enjoy the photos. All that this needs now is a light up trackball and holsters for the light guns (stored in the drawer, for now).

Well that's pretty cool. I'm surprised you didn't make it look like the cabinet in the movie though.
-
Yeah very cool--love the theme! just promise you'll never wear the starfighter outfit and jump in your gunstar ;D
-
That is so nice clanggedin, it is very appealing.
Is your sideart painted on? It looks excellent, you definitely nailed that theme.
Alex would be very proud of this cab, to bad i killed him in a dogfight to prove my worth as the real last starfighter. There can be only one!! ;)
-
I had decided on the theme after I had built the cab. It was going to be a Mervel vs. Capcom cab, but then I saw about 50 cabs based on that theme, so I went with something more retro.
As for the sideart, I created it from crappy photos from the web in Illustrator then sent the files to Scott at mamemarquees.com.
That movie brings back memories, but I will never stoop to Tron Man level and create my own suit. :)
Alex taught me everything he knew before he was lost in battle. Not even the entire Kodan Remnant can stop me!

this proves the last starfighter isnt dead afterall. Very nice work.
-
That artwork looks fantastic. Well done. I hope you added a secret button that causes the cabinet to spin wildly and fire in all directions ;D
-
very stylish and nice retro design!!
just looks great!
what monitor did u use, Pc/Arcade?
Enjoy the endless nights of playing this machine!
-
Awesome job dude, I absolutely love it. VERY NICE work.
-
It's a 25" TV unfortunately. I plan on installing an arcade monitor later, just need to round up the funds first.
-
GREATEST IDEA EVER.
Part of me (and not a small part mind you) really wants to make my cab look just like that. =)
-
I love your artwork. It reminds me of the early Williams cabs, Sinistar, Defender...etc.
Super job!
Will you be sharing your artwork in the Art Library?
-
EXCELLENT !!!
That is WAY cool...... Love the art work and clean design.
The FE is great as well.
-
I'll be posting my artwork later this week in the library. It's not the best mind you. It was my first foray into using Illustrator
-
Just out of curiousity, if you placed that great looking cab at a diagonal in that corner, how far out does it come and how wide is it?
Nice Work!
-
Very nice! I seriously considered doing something similar, but ended up going in another direction entirely. Well done!

Nice, cool artwork!! Very retro.

Very nice!
An idea for anyone looking to emulate the cab and/or artwork - You could have a sign shop cut the artwork out of adhesive vinyl.
-
The artwork is not painted on. It was designed by me, but Scott at mamemarquees.com printed it iout on adhesive vinyl.
Looks good though. Scott does an awesome job and even saved me some $$. He'll be doing the artwork printing for all of my other project cabs now.
-
This is a really fantasic cab, great theme and I like how you tie everything together using the theme (FE, sounds, graphics)...great job :)

Check this out Starfighters!
'The Last Starfighter', the Musical! (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=89&ncid=789&e=10&u=/playbill/20040921/en_playbill/88513)
Cool ;D

Sainrub, you beat me to it! ;D
I was going to say that this cab's builder can admit it now! He built this as a prop for an off-broadway musical!
-
You guys figured out my little secret! lol
Too bad I live in BFE Utah, or I would offer to let them use my cab.
-
Very cool theme, well done.
-
Excellent!
-
Really sharp - Good work!
Enjoy it.
