Title: Speeding up CHD games?
Post by: Alpha17X on July 23, 2004, 02:21:42 am
Amazingly enough CHD games are playable on my machine, the only lagging I have is with the sound, Does anyone have any methods or suggestions on how I could speed the sound up?  every now and then the video will slow down too but then it picks right abck up.   Or should I just upgrade my computer?

Which CHD games are your running and what are your computer specs?

If it's old hardware, a computer upgrade maybe the way to go.  I can get by with a 1.2GHz for running AREA51, KI etc, on a second PC I have recently rebuilt for a friends cab, however, the computer that is in the cab know doesn't (only 500MHz).  A upgrade for me is needed too.   :-[ (more money.....)

I'm running an optimized version of Mame32 on a P4 1.6 GHZ system, Video Card is a Geforce 3 TI200 128mb ddr video card.  sound card is a regular SB audigy.

I experience occasional video and sound lag in KI 1 and KI 2. can't get the other CHD games to run very week. KI 1 and 2 are playabale though. Just would like them to be more ... playable if possible

Heh those two don't count, they are literally the first two games to ever use chd images.  They are about as poweful as a suped-up snes.  :)

Lagging sound is a symptom that you DON'T have enough resources to play the games properly. When a game in mame is choking your system, sound suffers first.  Bad sound means your system is too slow.

Aside from turning on frameskip and tweaking it for that game (don't use auto, it's slower) there isn't anything you can do.
