i used to live in north cornwall in the UK near the coast. as a child i used to regular visit my local arcade down at the local beach (much to my mums disapproval;) i remember it used to be full of all the classic games - defender, pacman, rallyx, pengo, invaders, 1942, starwars cockpit, galaxians, asteroids, canyon bomber (probably the oldest video game they had!), missile command, cosmic guerilla...the list goes one.
its been many years since i've been in the arcade now (like 15+years!) so i decided to have a quick look around to see what was still there.
it was sad to see that 75% of space is no taken by slot machines and rest by redemption machines. the remaining space had a 2 player driving machine, a ddr, a 2 player motor bike machine and some sort of gun game.
i wonder where all those classics have gone? :(( its enough to make a grown man cry!

I was down in St. Ives a couple of weeks ago on a camping break (down from Liverpool). Beautiful part of the country down there.
I agree about the fruit machines, I went into an arcade and it was half filled with bloody fruit machines... and idiots addicted to them sitting there just throwing pound coins away one after the other.
The other machines they had were all stupid huge boxy cabinets with newer games in.
you NEVER see any old classics in arcades around here anymore, and im lookin for some up here in the north west cos i want to play some cabs before I build mine to check things like CP and screen height... just to make sure it's the right size for me, lol
