For my driving cab, I'm currently creating a car as vector artwork.
Let me know what you think! I'll post updates in this thread.
-
That looks really slick. Nice work. Excuse my ignorance, but what kind of car is that based on?
-
Thanks.
It's based on the Nissan Skyline GT-R. The details in the picture will make this a slow but fun vectorising project.
-
SWEET! I like it a LOT!
Consider keeping a version at this point if you add detail! I like it the way it is.
I wish I still had my sitdown cab... This would have been perfect for the side!
-
looks great! nice work!
-
Updated! The outlining is almost done. Next the windows and I'm going to experiment on the colours and that metallic paint/reflective look.
-
I had a little time to add more details on the car's side. See the result:
-
man that is very nice work. I love it. It will look very sweet on a driving cab
-
That looks great! Lilwolf gave me his sit down cab a while back and this would look awesome on it. If you don't mind, I would like to use the image. How would I go about getting it made? Do I need to vectorize it or can I just save the pic and have it made from that?

Looking good. And you do all this in Visio?

The car is not yet complete, I plan to add more colours.
If you like the image feel free to use it, I'm willing to add more 'personalised' stuff to it (like the cabinet's name or a checkered flag pattern or something). However I don't have a lot of time, I have just become a father (my son is just 4 months old) so I'm drawing in the few moments of spare time.
The picture is a vector but it's currently in Visio format. I can produce a bitmap image out of in any size you would require, I exported my (Visio) Timezone cabinet vector image to a bitmap image in 300 pixels per inch and it came out perfect on the printer. To export it to an Adobe Illustrator format I need to adjust a few things (the current export filters aren't that great in Visio) so would like to wait until I'm completely finished before I'll upload this one to the vector library.
Looking good. And you do all this in Visio?
Yes, see the attached image - also with a preview of what's to come ;D comments on the colour scheme are welcome ;)
-
Man, you have freakish talent in Visio. I like the color too! What version of Visio are you using? It looks newer than 2000, but that could be XP changing the window looks.
-
I'm using Visio 2003. It has a few features that make designing a bit better (handles for rotating etc. work easier in 2003).
-
that is sick looking(in a good way)
You got mad skills with visto.
-
sent you a pm
-
good lord! I can bearly draw a square in visio let alone that! Awsome btw!
-
I didn't know Visio could do vector stuff. All I knew is I have it on my machine because we have some diagrams for work stuff done in Visio. Interesting.
*Awesome* job!! Can I make a suggestion though? Can you make it so the wheels look like they are spinning? That would seem much more appropriate on the side of a racing cabinet, rather than a sitting "show car", if you know what I mean.

Just a short message:
I'll be offline the next week; my son needs surgery and my wife and I will stay with him while he has to stay in the hospital.
So any PMs and questions about the car-artwork or Visio-how-to's will be answered when everything is back to normal in my family.
-
Man sorry to hear it. I hope everything goes well.
Good luck and god bless

I'm sorry to hear that your son is needing surgery. Well wishes be with you and your family.

Thanks for the kind words!
We have just returned from the hospital. My son needed surgery on a muscle in hip upper lip (the muscle tissue had a small gap in it), it was important that they fixed the muscle before he learns to speak so he wouldn't get problems later.
The surgery was a success. He is doing fine now and he already carefully starts to smile again :-)
Ontopic: At the moment spare time is in short supply, so progress is slow. I'm experimenting with colouring the car. I'm not yet satisfied by the result.
So in short: I'm still working on the car. I think in a few weeks I can pick up a quicker workpace and finish the artwork.
-
Glad to hear that everything is well with your son. Can't wait to see artwork updates.
-
I had a some time to tweak the green colour:
-
Today an appointment was cancelled so I had some extra time to update the artwork :) Let me know what you think!
-
That's Awesome!!! You did a really great job... *bows down in awe of your Visio skilz*
-
Added some more details and a title. Not sure if I'm going to name my cab 'Turbo', it's a request and I'm curious how it would look.
TODO: some hilights on the rear side of the car and details in the wheels
opinions are welcomed.
-
Awsome. I was wondering when you were going to get to the wheels. ;)
-
That looks great! Can't wait to get it on my cab. Just wondering what are the dimmensions of it with the turbo on it just want to make sure it still fits, but looks perfect.
-
The image height-width ratio is 44:37 so within that frame it can be any size you want. I test-fitted the image on a mockup of a green 'turbo' cabinet.
-
Looks awesome, have you built the cab yet.
You probably can't wait to drive it!
-
The final car image! I've been tweaking a little and I feel that any more changes would do more damage than good so I consider it finished. I'll convert the Visio file to EPS later this week and upload it to the vector image database website.
LMKWYT!

Pretty sweet! :o
I don't mean to criticize since I couldn't do anything near that well, but your rear wheel seems odd. It's ligther under the wheel well than at the bottom (where it should get more light). I think you should gradient it like the front wheel. Unless you did that on purpose for some reason.
-
SKILLZ !! (http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/images/smilies/applaud.gif)
Looks great from every angle ! (http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

You're right, I changed the rear wheel's shading and it looks better this way. I might have accidently picked the wrong shade-direction and I didn't notice it ::)
Thanks for mentioning it Witchboard!
-
Man, to have crazy mad skills like that. 8)
-
Very nice. Can't wait to see that with the Abbey Chase. 8)

Here is felsirs image on my turbo cabinet.

Looks damn nice....

Looks great!! The print quality looks good too! ;D
-
Looks GREAT!
I miss my sit down cab :'(

Incredible work, ;) im just starting off with Vector drawings. Using Adobe Illustrator. Could i get the final Vector drawing of the car off ye to try & figure out how you did it & to admire the work.
-
You are free to check the file out.
I have sent the file to Mahuti so he can convert it to a format that is accepted by Adobe. I should appear soon on the vectorised artwork website (http://www.localarcade.com/arcade_art).
Thanks for the compliment :)
-
Yeah, everyday, I think about that file.
I'll get it up there, I've just been extremely busy.
(in other news... I just got invited to do a flash game for Shaun of the Dead YEAH!!!)
-
Cheers Guys, make sure to drop a link here.

Woo Woo Woo! :) no problem, take your time.
People who really want the art for their cab sooner, can PM me: I can make a highres-bitmap file (like I did for rob1234 - see image elsewhere in this thread).
-
Finally got around to uploading that file.
