Here in the USA converting a jukebox to use MP3's is illegal and not authorized by A.S.C.A.P. It is considered copyright infringement by the courts here. However, I believe it's ok in other countries.

True, but if you pick up an old Jukebox for home use, this would be a great project to do.
Also, it's only illedgal if you didn't license the MP3's, there would be nothing wrong using your own MP3's made from your own CD's (for a home project), or using music that's in the public domain. At least here in the US, at this point it time.

::) hi, the unit i have built are used in mexico, and i now have a agreement with mexican RIA they charge me 2 dollars per song per year, and im allowed to distribute legal content for the converted jukeboxex ;D
-
You're lucky in that respect, but here in the USA lawyers are having a field day on music copyrights.
-
Well here in mexico is the same, but if you go and negotiate with the RIA before they get to you you might get lucky and get a permit, as now im the 4th person in mexico who can not only use, but distribute mp3's and videos, for digital jukeboxes.
