Title: Is Simpsons Bowling working?
Post by: dema on July 07, 2004, 04:27:31 pm
I was reading on the mame.net gamelist that Simpsons Bowling is now working, with the sound partially working. Has anyone tried playing it to see how well it works, and does anyone happen to know the minimum PC requirement to run it?

I saw that too, but my copy of The Simpson's Bowling displays an error during the ROM check.  (not MAME's file audit, but after the game loads it does a check...)

It says something is "BAD" and then says to consult the manual :(

Thats a bit strange though, because MAME says my .CHD file is perfectly fine (it loads it fine).

Hold down "F2" during startup to initialize the EEPROM.

Interstingly enough this works and you only have to do it once and you have to hold F2 down through the whole startup routine.  How did you know that this needed to be done?

How is the speed of the game? What processing power do you have and is there any slow-down in the gameplay?

True, but it is still thee place to go for mame questions as most likely they have already been asked, and usually recently.

Plays 100% speed on a 2.4 gig P4 with 1 gig Ram... haven't tried it on anything less yet. but my cabinet is in the process of upgrading mame from 0.71 to 0.84 and it's got a 1.0 gig P3 in it with 512 megs of ram... So I'll find out :-)

How is the sound? The mame site says that there are still some sound issues.

The sound issues are that it isn't all there yet.  The game is pretty quiet.

This is the game THE most cpu intense game I plan to play on the PC I'm building for my cab. You guys think a p4 2.4A with 512MB of RAM can handle it?

is it just me, or does this game royally SUCK?

I mean, you have to hit a button and position your player and curve EVERY time you bowl a ball, and you have to hit a button, then just roll forward when it's in the green.... I mean it's a TERRIBLE game interface.. World Class Bowling is MUCH better.  I'm done playing games for the novelty value.. just because it's a 'Simpsons' game, doesn't make it suck any less.

Unless I'm missing something Entirely, which could definitely be possible.

Nope, you've pretty much hit the nail on the head. The maker relied on the "Simpsons" brand name to generate revenue and discarded playability entirely.

I loved playing Simpsons bowling.  I haven't gotten it up on my PC yet, but in the arcade, it was a lot of fun.

Heh.... you are .... When prompted to select your interface type select "simple"  simple actually means trackball, the "advanced" interface type is for joystick use (crappy conversions).  Now playing the game will be very similar to world class bowling.

Why this is selectable in the game and is not a dip setting is beyond me.
