I was referred to http://www.chipinstalls.com/ (http://www.chipinstalls.com/) to get my modchip installed in my platstation2 by someone on the boards, but I can't bring myself to believe 100% that my PS2 is in good hands...
How do I know this guy isn't just going to keep my playstation?
So far all I have to go by is the recomendation by 1 person and the feedback on the guy's site and who knows if that's even real feedback???
BTW this is all my GF's fault. I was all set to send it out on monday until she goes and opens her big mouth about whether or not we're getting ripped off.
-
ah if you didnt already sent it out i wouldve told you to get the flip-top PS2 mod, its only 40$ you do it yourself its super easy, and you dont have to deal with mod chips or any weird stuff
-
Best thing you can do is when it's garbage day in your area. Look for old radios or cassette players. And practice soldering in about an hour you will get the hang of it.

Are you aware of any limitations to the fliptop mod (any imports/backups it won't play?).
-
ive never ran into any problems with it, ive played about 5 different import games so far, and ive never read a bad review about it. from a technical aspect it works awesome, the only reason for a modchip would be for conveinience of not needing to swap discs
-
I've already got the chip + I'd realy like to keep it looking as normal as posible, othewise I would get the flip top. I actually was planning on doing the flip top for a couple months before I bought my chip. Ultimately it came down to lack of space above the PS2 to open it in it's current home.
-
I wouldn't try it, IMHO

try what? lol , he already sent it out if thats what youre talking about
-
No, just stating my opinion, which I hope has no bearing on his (already made, mind you) decision.
-
Pardon my ignorance as I'm just getting started with the PS2, but what are the merits of the slide card versus flip top mods?
Is one better than the other? The install of the flip top seems more involved than the slide card but I can't find any tech documents on the slide card.
Thanks,
-
the slide card has been proven to damage your DVD drive as it literally just hits a release switch and pulls open the tray manually. just think of pulling out the CD tray on your computer all the time.
the flip top lets you drop in a cd without even touching the cd tray. i highly reccomend it , i have one and it works great. and the install is really basic, you unscrew like 10 screws , remove a panel and put on the new top, screw it back together

while the fliptop is a great product, i would invest a few more bucks into a chip.... with the org psx and swaping games, it got annoying to a point where i wouldnt want to play cause i had to wait. there are plenty of good vendors and sites you could check out, fm me for more info..
good luck

*sniff* - I thought we shared something special.
I'm just bustin' your chops. Can't believe I didn't give you this stuff with my original recommendation. Duh. I guess I thought you'd ask him for referrals.
P.S. Flip-tops are for the weak of heart...and the cheap. If you're going to mod the PS2, do it right and get a damn DMS3. :)
-
Btw,
What chip did you end up getting? 'Cuz if you went with the DMS3 I wouldn't recommend trying to solder it yourself. One screw-up and your PS2 becomes a fancy bookend.
Since it's a fairly complicated job...

FYI I dropped the loot on the Dms3 v9 Premodded PS2 from chipinstalls.com. That seemed like the best solution. The price was right too.

LOL
Honestly, I'm just trying to convince my GF that she's going to get her PS2 back. Plus, she'll have ---my bottom--- if she doesn't get to play DDR like every friggin day!
-
I understand. I kinda' freaked out after I sent mine and I realized I just sent a BRAND NEW PS2, along w/ $130 dollars to a guy I don't even know.
But it turned out fine and he's got the bona fides...let me know how it goes.

Sent the PS2 out today. Priority mail. Should be there by wednesday and if I'm lucky maybe back before the weekend.
I'll post here again when I get it back and let y'all know the results.
-
Got an e-mail today... It's getting sent back to me USPS Priority some time today. Now I'm realy starting to get excited!
-
Is this guy good or what?
Told you he was fast. :P
-
lol. STOP BRAGGIN! Jesus triste
Well, whatever. I'm not getting my pz2 modded, so if I know someone who does, I'll be sure to refer.
-
Awe yea! Got the PS2 back today. Haven't tried it out yet but I'll post a little later to let y'all know what's up.
Unfortunaty I don't own any PS2 CDrom games nor do I have a DVD burner so I can't test that aspect but I do have about 40 or so backups of PSX games so...

The PS2 Flip-Top mod is limited to the size of the boot vd/cd You use!
