I have one in my cab and it is great.  I highly recommend it.  I play a lot of marvel vs capcom 2, soul caliber, capcom vs snk 2, Guilty Gear X, and Ikaruga on my DC.  I hacked the normal pads, but just about any pad is hackable.

I did not have a hard time doing the hack.  The first 2 controllers I did worked.  I pretty much followed the guide that is in the link above.

Here is a marked up photo of the controller PCB:

One smart forum member observed that you do not have to scrap off the button contacts like he did in the tutorial.  Instead, follow the button contact to the corresponding hole and attach the wire there.  Also, make sure you use flux when you solder (follow the soldering guide from the tutorial).

Awwww, you called me smart!  *Blush*  Actually, the holes on the Sega controllers aren't quite all the way through, you have to open them up with a Pin Vise (Get one from your local hobby store) and scrape the covering away from the circle around the hole (Very easy to do with a little bit of sandpaper).

Hi guys!

Im planning to set-up a cab (for business purposes) using DC inside but I really cant figure out what to do to hack the start sequence to make it 'arcade-like' ( just a coin would start a game ). Ill be using marvel vs capcom 2 but the strat sequence will move you to game options, etc. etc. Is there a way to by-pass this and a single start ( coin ) will eventually lead to a single full game?

thanks

There's a device that will do this (allow you to put a DC in a cab).  Cearch this forum for more info.  They come up on Ebay every now and then, but they're fairly pricey.

Not very deep, it's just a small layer of plastic to hide the metallic trace underneath.  Stop whe you see a gold metallic color coming through.

Don't ---smurfing--- charge people to play DC.

If this is a real business then you should know that Dreamcast games are licensed for home use only and not for commercial use.  You should look into the Naomi system if you want commercial use Sega games (you can find them on ebay).

No, I do business, and I know people who do business. Charging people to play DC is not doing business, it's you being a worthless punk. Arcade games are so cheap, that if you actually plan on making any money it's COMPLETELY retarded to go the DC route.

The only way the DC taking quarters route would work is if you wheren't going to make much money AT ALL. In which case there's no point to shuck the few dollars out of ppl.

In short, you aren't doing business, you are just not thinking.

Charging people to play DC is a ghetto scam that won't save you ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---, it'll just keep you from making your proper dough, fool.

you are entitled to your own opinion, fool.  Youre a fool after making such comments without knowing first what my business is all about. I customized cabs on a per order basis here in the Philippines where I use standard consoles rather than jamma and these are all used for personal use by console owners who opt to play it 'arcade style' . I own a woodworking shop/carpentry shop by the way and I try to package things up by making some electronics/electrical works for my arcade loving customers.

where is the ghetto scam here???

If you have nothing good to say...please shut your mouth or i mean... stay away from that computer keyboards...your fingers might be a faster thinker than you brain.

The device which makes the dreamcast "coin'able" is a DC-to-Jamma interface...so if you say you don't want to go jamma (or don't have a jamma wired cab to begin with), then I don't think there is any alternative other then wiring the start button to the coin mech.

As for the legality of selling the DC enabled cabs,  I don't see anything wrong there.  But then again, there is nothing from stopping your customers from simply putting them in public places to earn real money.  Oh well.

Maybe you oughta take a helping of your own advice.

Someone who's only posted a handful of times talking about using their cabinets for business?

Of course the  immediate reaction is that it's going to be put on-site to generate income.  You didn't do anything to refute that belief with your first reply. "Sorry dude, it's for business."  And honestly, your explination isn't really totally convincing.  Nor your heated response.

I believe his point was that you could have saved a lot of people a lot of typing time if you'd just explained your business model up front, rather than tossing off a flippant "It's for business, dude", as you did.
