Title: Hello! I am Ray B!

Hi. I'm yet another old-schooler building a MAME machine. I originally wanted a cocktail table, but I really don't like the look of those tables with control panels on THREE sides. One day I'll build one where I can rotate the control panel around, or rotate the monitor, but until then, I decided to go for an upright.

I have nearly all my parts gathered up. I got myself a generic upright, which is kinda smaller than average (but not a "mini"). Here's a pic: http://www.retrofx.com/arcade/images/generic_cab_jan2004.jpg (http://www.retrofx.com/arcade/images/generic_cab_jan2004.jpg)

I'm sticking to the existing control panel, so it's gonna be a tight fit. I will have only 3 buttons per player, and a spinner in the middle. There's no room for a trackball! BUT I plan on making a small plug-in console with a trackball, so when I'm not playing TB games, I just unplug it and put it away.

I have my spinner and TB working already, with an Opti-pac. There are pics on this page (scroll down to the March 26 entry): http://www.retrofx.com/rayb_arcade.html (http://www.retrofx.com/rayb_arcade.html)

Hopefully it will be done and painted up by mid-summer. All I need is a new monitor.

Keep an eye out on me! This one will not be your standard BLACK!

Ray B.

Ever think about modular or swappable panels?  A little more work but more versatile.

Looks great thus far.  I'm getting jealous now, I'm still lagging behind in the cab building.   Time for me to press foward.

Yes I've thought of going the swappable route, but since this is my first cab, I'm being conservative. I WILL have a plug-in trackball console... I was thinking of even going so far as making it kinda mount into the front, extending the panel (but still being removable).
