Title: games won't recognize mouse hack
Post by: jimmyjet on March 13, 2004, 01:10:37 pm
I have hacked a mouse and hooked it up to a steering wheel for my upright driving mame cabinet.  Pole position, spy hunter, and a few other games play great with the mouse hack steering wheel.   Some others don't accept the mouse input at all (Ironman Stewart, Indy Heat, etc).

I have set the universal settings to enable mouse input.  The games that now work have a dial input listed in the in-game controller setup menu.  The ones that don't work have simply "player 1 left, player 1 right," etc.

My question is this:  can I somehow make these non-working games accept the mouse input?  Am I overlooking something obvious?

I appreciate the help.

I am able to play Ironman Stewart's Off-Road and Indy Heat just fine with a mouse using Mame .80.  Are you using a version of Mame where those games work?

Since this topic is started, I've gone through all my analog games and they all work correctly with my spinner except:  Off the Wall (Atari), Blasteroids, and Puzz Loop.  Does anyone know if these games are supposed to work?  And if so, any suggestions on how?  I've used Mame32.70 and Nameless Mame.78(?????),

I have just tried Off The Wall (2/3-player upright), Off The Wall (2-player cocktail), Off The Wall (Sente), Blasteroids (with heads), Blasteroids (German, rev 2), Blasteroids (rev 2), Blasteroids (rev 3), Blasteroids (rev 4) and Puzz Loop and all of them work just fine with the mouse in Mame .80.  As far as Puzz Loop goes you will have to go into the game's service mode and tell it to use the knob instead of the joystick.
