I have an arcade cabinet running emulation station on a raspberry pi, with the joystick buttons and controls as seen in the picture. I've also got an original Xbox (the first they brought out) that's been modded to play many emulators. I've tried to connect the arcade machines controls via a usb/to Xbox controller adaptor cable but nothing works. Is there a different type of adaptor I need to use to be able to use the arcade controls with the Xbox?? Any help appreciated 👍🏻

An encoder needs to be in "x-input" mode for the Xbox to recognize it.
Not sure if your "zero-delay" style encoder can do that or not. (some do, some don't) :dunno

If you want something on the original, you can use a Bliss-Box.
2 ways
1
Get a GPA single adapter, and a Bridge.
Use the signal adapter in arcade mode.
Use the Bridge in Xbox OG mode
2
Get a GPjr
Use the GPjr in arcade mode and flash it with the Xbox firmware
I can help with detail if needed. Here is an old video of it https://youtu.be/ZYIfdRQ6FlE
