Title: NANAO MS8-29 (05A00362G1) please help!
Post by: hamsolo on August 02, 2021, 12:19:13 pm
Hi, I have recently acquired an Astro City that I would just love to get working, the issue is with the monitor, I’m not at all skilled enough to self diagnose the problem and would greatly appreciate any help.

Brief issue: NANAO MS8-29
Monitor powered up and had one line across the screen was a little bit of crackling sound like maybe arcing? Line moved down screen to bottom then disappeared, didn’t look like a collapse was an actual pixel line on screen as far as I could tell, I had a Pandora’s box home edition with a conversion harness attached I feel this has maybe sent a higher frequency than it should have!!

I have ordered a cap kit and I’m ok with doing that, but ideally I would like to send it to someone in the UK if possible who knows what they are doing, check it out and fix if possible any damaged/faulty parts.

Recommendations would be appreciated, thanks again.

Jon

Hmm, if it's not vertical collapse, can you turn the screen pot up on the flyback and see retrace lines? With no signal connected, mb?

MS8-26 monitors have a known quirk with the hybrid sync module - or so Jomac says. They work perfectly at 15.750Khz but if you go too far outside that they will sync at first, then burn out the module pretty quick. See - https://www.aussiearcade.com/forum/aussie-arcade-sponsor-s-trading-forum/arcade-pinball-and-amusement-machine-sponsors/jomac/70010-hold-issue-on-ms8-26se-chassis

I'm not sure if the MS8-29 is going to be the same. Sadly Jomac doesn't work outside Aus :(
