Yah it has sound and its pretty good...Im going to mount the mono speaker (that the Ipaq comes with, just like you would if this was a real full size cab...Since the Ipaq has WiFi It also has a jack so I can hook it up to bigger spearkes for some streamin mp3's

>>>The smallest MAME cab ever! <<<

That got me thinking, this is probably the smallest mame cab.
Then what is the biggest?
The most expensive, the cheapest(trashcade)?
The heaviest, the lightest?
The coolest, the ugliest?
Any made out of cheese? (sorry I'm tired...)

Their should be a listing or a hall of fame, kinda like the Mamey's

It hink the IPAC MAN is very cool, portable mame!
Great job, can't wait to see it finished...

I doubt it. There were more microcabs a few months ago (built for the microcab competition) and I think they were smaller. BTW, I have a 1:6 scale PocketGalaga cab (11" high) "standing" around (waiting for the artwork to finally get finished). It really goes miles to convince people that building a mame cab is not such a dumb idea At least when I tell people I'm building a mame cab they roll their eyes and immediately look at my wife while I can just see them thinking "what they hell is up with this guy"  ;D  Then I pull out the PocketGalaga and the fall in love  8)

Yeah, that was one of the entries for the Microcab competition. Now that I think about it, that wasn't a mame cab though.

BTW, see the competition thread for the entries (http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=6;action=display;threadid=10462;start=msg78936#msg78936)

Some one should posts 1Ups Mini - Pac man...
Now thats assume!!

I've got 1Up's mini-pac cab sitting on my desk right now in my office . He and I made a trade for some stuff. It's definately smaller than  14.5"  x 5.5" x 9 ".

Isn't 1UP's mini cabinet more like a table top cabinet instead of a full replica of a authentic cab? If possible post a picture of 1UP's cabinet I'd like to see it again, as I remeber it was really cool lookin!

Ehm ... did you miss Pocket Galaga (http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=10;action=display;threadid=16603) (11+" high)? Not claiming this is the smallest ever though. Just shrunk to size with the monitor.

Huhuh uhuhuhuh I posted a "mine is smaller than yours" post  ;D

Wow, you took it apart!  8)  I luckily found a a game controller for something like $15 and hacked that one. I still need my iPAQ.

I've thought about picking up a cheap PocketPC or PocketManager (Casio) off eBay to do this very thing.  Must say I like the idea of getting a gamepad made for a PPC (and the PPC to go with that pad) better than popping open one and soldering in wires...then again voodoochile's method is definitely the cheaper route.  Decisions, decisions.

Wish I had had a joystick for my old Ipaq but since I didnt thats why I decided to solder directly to the board....It has been a very hard and tetious process soldering to the ipaq..so if you decide to do my method..BE CAREFUL

I depends on what you do to see which is cheaper. I still need my iPAQ so soldering it up would definately be more expensive to me (since I'd then need a second iPAQ). Now I can slide the iPAQ in and out as I please. Basically my microcab is a big gamecontroller  ;D

Making nice progess. Microcabs look so cute don't they  8)

I started my PocketGalaga as en exercise in woodworking and planning a bigger cab, but I have to say I'm glad I finished it. I had my birthday a few weeks ago and people were playing all night on my PocketGalaga. I was quite suprised people would put up with the tiny controls.

patrick1...Its funny I feel like I spent more time on this tiny cab then I ever did on the big one :)

And Fiend...I wanted some comfort when I play :)

Now I just need to paint and do about 100 things more.Heh!

Thanks guys!

Yeah, that's a problem with mine. I wanted it to look as much as a real cab as I could. I only changed "monitor" orientation and moved the CP down a bit because the iPAQ wouldn't fit in the normal monitor position. The joystick is real tiny now. It is quite playable though.
