Title: Jamma XXXX Game Board won't connect to monitor.
Post by: Landspyker on July 20, 2020, 07:02:29 am
Yesterday I bought an arcade machine off Facebook Marketplace. It is one of those "1200 in 1" machines. When I went to pick up the machine it was working fine and I was playing it. Once I got it home though I turned it on and the monitor comes on but that's it, the games itself do not boot up.

Now I haven't really got a clue what I'm doing. I've checked every cable and everything is in place and all the soldering appears fine. I haven't got a way to check if there is voltage coming out of the power supply but it's getting power to it as the light that indicates it's on lights up.

The screen is just black with white horizontal lines going across it that will sometimes stay stay and other times move around.

The monitor seems to be fine as I can adjust the positioning and focus/brightness and colours.

Anyone got any ideas on what to do?

If I recall correctly, those types of boards use TWO power supplies. The screw terminal one operates the JAMMA section whilst the computer power supply operates the computer mother board only.

If this board uses a hard drive to hold the games, check the cables to it. Hopefully the hard drive didn't get bounced around during the trip home.

Cables seem to be connected fine. I'm getting a new power supply today for the Jamma section so hopefully that'll fix it.

Thats a odd looking monitor? Is it a wide screen CRT in there???

Afraid I have never touched one of those boards so cant offer any specific advice, But first thing I would do if you have checked all the connections is to check the voltages coming out of the PSU with a multi meter.

the jamma type supply just powers the top board , the led looks to be lit in your photo so likely is working

the motherboard part of the unit is powered by a standard atx type supply, probably find that is faulty or the power cable fell out

a multimeter will prove everything

I disconnected the jamma power supply but the green led light still turns on. Big confusion.

Also the monitor is Norma, this website just smooshed the image so it looks small and wide but it's normal.

I connected a new power supply for the jamma board but still have the same issue. Gonna have to try a computer power supply now.

I fixed it! Turns out it was the power supply for the Jamma board (not the PC PSU). Seems to be a very common issue.

Glad you are sorted but what was the actual issue?
Low voltages or just a naff PSU?

It may help the next person who finds this thread with the same issue :)

I believe I just wasn't getting any output from the power supply. Once I swapped it with a new one it worked fine and has been going strong ever since
