Title: Power cord solution
Post by: Mike A on May 16, 2019, 07:27:33 am
Most of my cabs have some kind of hackery in the power section. I have fixed anything that looked unsafe, but I have left the rest pretty much alone. For future projects how about using something like this? It involves less wiring in a compact unit. It also allows a detachable power cord. I am not an electrician. Can anyone see a problem with this unit?(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190516/ae21c33d94c459f390452ce06e1b3daf.jpg)

I cant make out the specs but as long as its rated for the correct current that should be sound.

I didn't notice that screen grab is garbage. oops. I will post something better later. It just looks like a nice compact solution, particularly for new builds.

That datasheet (https://cn.mouser.com/datasheet/2/355/FN%20280-707113.pdf) is for an entire series of IEC power inlets that include a built-in EMI filter so they are about 4x more expensive than the ones you usually see linked here.

Part number: FN 28x-yy-06

- x determines the mounting flanges and number of fuses
-- 1 for top/bottom flanges and single fuse (shown in your screenshot)
-- 3 for left/right flanges and single fuse
-- 5 for snap-in and single fuse

- yy is the current rating
-- 6 for 6A
-- 10 for 10A

Last page of the datasheet has links to the part numbers.

Yeah. The one I was looking at was like 25 bucks. It is not super cheap, but it provides a solution with less wires. I also like the idea of pulling out the cord when I move a machine.

You can save quite a bit if you don't need the EMI filter.

  Product: Inlets
  Filtered: Not filtered
Current Rating: (select every option with "10 A")
  Fused: (as desired)
  Switch Function: (as desired)

Thanks. That helps. I don't really need the EMI filter. My games are all plugged into a power conditioner. I just figured they are in every cab. When I die the next owners will have to deal with it. Except for the Time Pilot cab. I want to be stuffed in it, set adrift, and burned up for my Viking funeral.

Yep that is one spot where I deviated from original on my Robotron cab.  I have it running with this:

Now that sounds like a good way to leave this mortal plain :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:
