Title: Using light gun IO board from other PC based arcade cabs with mame?
Post by: Zebra on December 30, 2018, 07:30:20 pm
Most light gun fans know about the (now sold out) USB2GUN boards but, has anyone here ever tried using the USB gun IO board from another PC based arcade light gun cab with mame?

For example, the gun IO for Target Terror and Big Buck Hunter pro both use a USB connection to a PC. Is there any reason why the Target Terror IO would be different (in terms of mame compatability) to a USB2gun board?

Those cabs and IO boards are a lot cheaper and easier to find than the America's army ones....

I went through this back when I had a target terror. I tried two different IO boards and never got very far. I couldn't (easily) get any movement of the guns to show up while watching the USB ports. I had tried a couple of different programs to try to capture the data coming from them. IIRC target terror ran on a build of linux rather than windows.

I did track down one of those USB2GUN boards, but have since sold all my gun games and never got around to getting it up and running.

Did you try it with Linux mame? If target Terror was a linux based game then there must be linux drivers in that game's folder.

Those Target Terror I/o boards are a lot cheaper and easier to find that a USB2gun. I have been looking to buy a USB2GUN board for a while now but I haven't seen any for sale outside an America's Army cab.

I was hoping that now so many people have given up using a CRT display, there might be a few for sale but no luck so far.
