I'm going with my arcade monitor in my cabinet, so which versions on mame can be used with it and which one is easiest? Cabinet is jamma with Jpac.

If you don't have the arcadevga and you are running on an arcade monitor--advancemame gives you the best results as far as displaying games as best they can at non-standard sizes and resolutions.
-
Here's a question: does MAME still support arcade monitors? You used to have a command line option, but it seems to be gone now.
-
Peale,
I believe it does still but only in the DOS version. I have run it like that periodically on one of my cabs and it has a fairly recent Mame version for dos (0.71 or so).

Is advancemame just like a version of mame, and that is all i need? Or do i need regular mame too? I'm new at this and any help would be appreciated. Thanks

If the computer you are using is halfway modern, I would reccomend getting the arcade vga card. It's not the expensive and it removes all of these limitations. Dos is a bad os for a fast computer and windows gives you far more options in terms of emulators and front ends.

I agree 100% with Howard..
get the ArcadeVGA card and use the regular MAME. You'll be able to run all arcade resolutions on that monitor, as well as windows @ 640x480 interlaced.. no tweaking, no problems.. works out of the box!

Choices for DOS Front End for Arcade Monitors
ArcadeOS
AdvanceMenu
Choices for Windows 98 for Arcade Monitors
MameWah with Trident Tblade64 Card and Special Drivers, Any Frontend that works with windows
Choices for Win XP for Arcade Monitors
None unless using Powerstrip or Using the Arcade VGA Card.

I thought advancemame was for Windows too? The computer is a Athlon 2800, so it's new. It has XP on it, so that means there are no choices to go with Arcade monitor and XP? But with ArcadeVGA it will work? Where can I get one?
-
Also I got a dual video card so I could run the arcade monitor and regular monitor so the computer could still be used by running mame. If I get Arcade VGA, is there anyway to run both monitors? Noone has gotten an arcade monitor working with XP?
-
Yes and no... to do dual displays all you need are two video cards. Xp will take care of the rest..... however mame will only display on one monitor at a time, regardless of if it's an arcadevga card or not.

Is powerstrip easy to use? Any guides for it somewhere?

I hear only some get powerstrip to work... And then its interlaced.
I plan on trying sometime soon... I have other projects going on constantly.... (like playing Vice City and The simplsons Hit & Run.... Depending on if the kids are up)...
I've also heard that powerstrip likes nvidia cards... and not ATI... but since I have both here... I plan on trying both at the same time.
btw... once you get windows running at a specific resolution on an arcade machine. JFront will work. I NEVER touch the screen resolution for fear of blowing up someones monitor because of a configuration problem... Setup windows for an arcademachine... then mame.... then JFront can be setup to any resolution you want.
