Long time lurker, i think this is my first post....
After years of reading and lurking, I decided my first project will be a full size DK cab. I am going with the RED version and the original DK theme...there is plenty of artwork and drawings out there. DK was my favorite game as a kid with Ms. Pac Man second.
Ive read everything from @ChanceKJ and @Gaetan...I'll be using their collaboration to build the cabinet.
I found a place to cut the MDF since i'd bleed all over the place trying to cut my own.
I ordered all the CP parts from Mike's today.
I have not decided on all of the internal components yet but the goal is to be able to play all of the DK games in one cab...DK, DK Jr, DK3 (REMIX if possible)...Single theme cabinet with every version of the game possible!
Now to the question...
I want to keep the weight and heat down by using an LED panel with a scan line generator...What monitor is the closest match to the original Sanyo 20EZ? I have a Dell 2001FP but, i cant seem to find the measurements anywhere to see what the closest match would be when using an LED monitor.
any tips as i get rolling would be helpful.
thank you!

Welcome to the forums!
Kudos on your choice of using an SLG for the LCD monitor. Personally I'd go with a CRT, but you did say you wanted to keep the weight down. However, Nintendo cabinets don't weigh much to begin with since they are smaller than typical cabinets. Something to think about.
The Dell 2001FP is a 20.1" 4:3 monitor. To be more authenic, you'd probably want a use a 19" 4:3 monitor. Check out ArrowDirect.com, they have tons of used ones. Use code ARROW for a discount and free shipping. I love that place.. :applaud: However, you could certainly use that 20.1" monitor since you're not going with authenticity (after all it is an LCD).
As for the color: Radarscope Red is a great choice. (I'm biased, since that's what mine is going to be). Are you planning to laminate or paint?
Emulation: I didn't see DK Pauline edition on your list, it's a fan made "reversed" DK clone where you are Pauline saving Mario. DK Remix is not emulated. Although you can get the Coco3 emulator and play that version instead (it's pretty close).
Hope this helped and good luck!

Thank you DeLuSioNal,
Ive got plenty of time to find a CRT if i go that route.
I bet, ill end up with 100% DK at some point, there are some awesome builds out there.
I forgot all about arrow...thanks for the reminder.
Im thinking 100% PCB with mod chips eventually but probably just start with the raspberry pi and work my way up the addiction.
My family already said that if i do DK, they want a Ms Pac Man
Its going to be a busy summer building....I post a build thread as i get rolling
Thank you for the advice

When checking Arrow - be sure to check their Ebay listings (shop-arrow-direct) -- As they are sometimes cheaper than the website including arrow 15% discount -- I just bought an HP lp2065 (20" 4:3 ) on the site was $51 - 15% + tax was $47 and Ebay listing had them for $35.99 + tax shipped was $38.90 !
They still have them at that price - they are close to the dell 2007Fp ( but only DVI connections ) which is similar to the Dell 2001FP you mention but has the internal psu not external power block like the 2001 - ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/382095507975 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/382095507975) )

I am going to scratchbuild an early run Donkey Kong in the red color spending tons of money, but for some reason I am going to put in some sort of USED unrepairable lcd monitor, with an expected 5 year service life (when new) because what, you are scared of the worlds most reliable monitor technology?
I hate Sanyo 20EZs. I hate them because they were apparently designed with no thought towards servicing them. So it takes 20 minutes just to tear one down to replace a component. However, they are so good, that I am regularly doing rebuild on working ones from 1981 that have never even been serviced. Even dead ones come back from the dead half the time with just caps.
Repro red cab with an LCD will just be something the community laughs at. Do you not have $175 to buy a rebuilt 20Ez?

I have plenty of options the more I read, thank you all for your thoughts.
I'm going to focus on the cabinet build in the sort term...I will post a project thread next week when i get it going.
So far...
1/2 in MDF, traced and ready for cutting and routing.
red laminate outside, black laminate inside...the laminate will get me to 9/16th's...I tested today with the flat t molding that came in.
the controls are in...kids are crazy excited.
4x laminate sheets will be in late next week.
I'm a bit ocd when i work on something so, this may turn out with full pcb and arcade monitor at some point.
Been trying to find the arcade monitor without much luck.
thank you
