Title: MY Unnamed *WIP* Cabinet
Post by: nipsmg on January 27, 2004, 02:48:59 pm
Here's some pics of my unnamed WIP cabinet.

I haven't named it yet.... because I haven't thought of a good name.  Any ideas?!  I also need an artwork theme too.. hmm.....

-- It's still WIP because I haven't decided exactly what I'm going to do about a WP.  I can't decide whether I just get it over with and make a frankenpanel, or make it take even LONGER by making multiple panels.  grrrr :(

Anyone have any comments/questions/etc?  I'm more than happy to take compliments AND crisicisms:

Notes:  #1 == no there's no T-molding on the bottom in these pictures.. I have black for it, haven't had a chance to do it.

#2 == Those ARE bolts in the side of the cab. I decided to sacrifice a SMALL amount of visual beauty on the sides of the cab (which will have some kind of side art) for the ability to remove the top at will.

#3 == The notch in the wood in the front is for the lock. I didn't meaure right to plans and had to notch it, no biggie.

#4 == I have a coin door --  :-D

Great job! Check out this thread for some artwork ideas.  http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=10;action=display;threadid=7414  (GSXRMovistar has some seriously enviable graphics skills! I'm constantly awed by what he does.) Anyway, looks great!

Or Digital Addiction...

Any vents for the monitor?

Looks good so far, will watch for more progress.

The back of the cabinet pretty much IS a vent.

There are no back panels to close the back off, it stays open by design.
I had originally planned on possibly closing it off, however i figured that the back end will always be against a wall, and all it will do is add weight and heat to the cabinet, so there's really no point.

This also allows easy access to the computer.

At least I won't have ventilation problems.

Looks great.  Lots more to be done.  I like the blue T molding.  Digital addiction.  I like it.

The blue t-molding looks great, where did you get that?

The blue t-molding came from T-Molding.com.

Let me just say, I HIGHLY recommed them.
The owner/operator is a highly respectable guy as well.

I ordered 2 day shipping, which he could have easily kept the charge for.  He instead e-mailed me notifying me that we were in the same state, and he could ship it ground and it would definitely get to me in time.  I saved a decent amount on shipping.

Great product, great service, I'd buy from there again in a heartbeat.

....very nice job. Me wishes I had the physical space to build my own cab.

I'm thrilled with my two cabs....but I would love the challenge of a custom build!

Enjoy this part of the process.......it's one of the most fun parts!

Hey looking good man!

Don't sweat a couple of bolts on the side. A lot of original cabinets had bolts on the side anyway.

Colored t-molding is great because it really adds something to what would otherwise be a bland black cabinet.

Also, I regularly leave the backs off many of my games too. Makes them run cooler, and thus extends monitor and computer life greatly.

the color they show as "light blue" or whatever on the site is NOT as light as they'd have you believe.  I was worried about the color being too light, but it's a really nice blue when you get it.

I'm sure you'll be impressed.

According to what I see in your pictures, it should coordinate nicely with the artwork I have planned.

Well t-molding.com offers 6-inch samples of most of their items. It's good stuff.

*CROSS POST*! --

Dunno how many of you who read this read the artwork forum too, but here's a link to the "finished" CP art. -- Unless I've forgotten anything.

Note: It's a 900K JPG.  1600x360 -- This is the smallest size i can get to and still have the smaller effects show.

I think that control panel looks great. The only thing I might do if it were me would be go into the starfield and brighten up or add some stars and make the shapes of a few familiar contestelations.

*further cross post*
I got my blue t-molding and installed it on my cab last night. Thanks again for the source. I think it looks great!
