Title: LaunchBox or GameEX?
Post by: MeatballB on November 21, 2016, 10:51:41 am
So, looking at refreshing my old windows based Maximus Arcade cabinet with some new hardware and a new frontend.  I want to stay with Windows and really leaning towards either LaunchBox/Big Box or GameEX.

Anyone got any experience with both and have a preference of one over the other?

I'll have to look back into HyperSpin.  To be honest, I messed around with it some time back and had some issues with the initial config, so I didn't really take a look at it.  I'll take a look though.

I prefer GameEx. If you like tinkering - highly customisation + good community (not as big as HS, but good if you're wanting to get into customisation). Presently you can produce your own custom themes and even write your own plugins for it.

The big bonus is that Headkaze is in the process of a total re-write and the new version ("Evolution") has a focus on making it "build your own front end." You will be able to use custom animations, page layouts, scripts etc etc etc. It will also have an control panel viewer built in alongside other stuff.

I'm a Launchbox man myself. I know a lot of people who are used to Hyperspin are hesitant to try something new, but for me its the simplest to set up and looks great as well.
