Title: Rotating an ATI display!
Post by: Lilwolf on January 20, 2004, 11:30:46 am
finally!

It was suppost to work... but I never got the tab.  I thought it was  a 98 / xp problem (because I tested it in XP before changing back to 98)....  But I found out the tab was disabled!

Anyway, to change it...  It requires a regedit (pretty sure there will be some tweak programs to do it by hand... but don't know any).

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>ATI Technologies>Desktop>...

Then there are three subgroups.

I have 0000 as one...  change the rotation from 00 00 00 00 to 01 00 00 00.

Next under CPTemplate there was one under each subgroup of that... but don't think they where really used.  but again... Rotation from 00 00 00 00 to 01 00 00 00.

Anyway, it pops up and works now!

It also has a GREAT feature of rotating the mouse... by default (yes) its great... but where it REALLY shines is when you are testing all the resolutions you want... and before you actually rotate the monitor.  the mouse doesn't rotate.  So you don't have to turn your head to click on OK or Cancel!

How did you figure this out?  The reason I ask is I've been looking into creating an ati tweaking program for some time.  The idea was to make a command line app that front ends could call, so the monitor could be rotated automatically for certain games, ect.  If the tabs are in the registry then perhaps the rotation settings themselves are stored there as well?

I've took the gamble trying to do exactly that... Changed the values... nothing happened... but the tab came up...

But I stopped looking after that.

There are programs to snapshot the registry before and after that will list the changes. So snapshot, rotate, snapshot and look for the changes.

Would this apply to the ArcadeVGA - beeing an ATI under the hood?

Possibly, although I beleive true hardware rotation was introduced in the 7500.  I could be wrong on that though.

Howard,

Sounds interesting...you might try Regshot (I haven't used it but it looks like what you're looking for...supposed to work with Win9x, WinMe, WinNT4, Win2000 and XP)

thanks si, I'll use those!

Btw what I've fond out so far........ The rotation tab is stored in different places depending upon the drivers you are using.  Some are in Ati Technologies, and Some are in Ati Technologies Inc.  The settings seem to be the same regardless though and it is available on ALL cards that'll support catalyst drivers.  So yes, you can rotate with the arcade vga!

Just change the rotation string as lilwolf says to activate the tab.  Would anyone with a arcadevga be willing to test this for us?  I can walk you through it if necessary.
