Title: Ticketmaster voucher talk
Post by: BadMouth on June 23, 2016, 11:26:56 am
A new thread since it's not very chuffy.

I should have done my homework earlier.

Ticketmaster issued $386 million worth of vouchers, but the company is only obligated to pay out $42 million.
Once $42 million dollars worth of vouchers or discount codes have been used, the whole thing is over with and people will be left with useless vouchers.

The first batch of events they released was $5 million.  They are listing another $5 million worth of events today.
They've stated that after the first $10 million worth of events have been listed, they are going to wait a while and see how many piddly $2.25 discounts are used in getting them to their $42 million obligation.  After that, they may release more events (through May 2017) to close out their total obligation.

This sucks.  I thought I had a voucher that was mine to use at livenation venues until 2020.

TL;DNR - Use 'em or lose 'em.  I should have grabbed what I could have yesterday.  I will probably grab what I can today.

EDIT: a few other things I came across in a different article:
100 vouchers will be honored for each show listed.
Only 1.2% of vouchers issued will be redeemed, the rest will become useless. (not sure if math works out with the above stuff)
I snoozed, I loozed.

This settlement is just absurd.  Having a lottery where some members of the settlement receive compensation and others do not is ridiculous.

And where's my tuna?

I tried getting some tickets for some shows that just showed up for my area.  No dice.   :banghead:

Not sure what you people expected, this was going to be a you snooze you lose free for all from the get go.

I'm actually pretty stoked about the Stephen Marley concert I'm attending.

Hadn't done my homework and didn't realize that.
I expected that I had a voucher that was good until 2020 and could wait for the initial rush to blow over.

Everything I received about it being first come first serve was in regard to there only being a limited number of vouchers honored for each event.
Had no idea they were issuing 98% more vouchers than there would be events.

Hopefully I'll get something in the next round.
Even though it's like losing found money, I'm pissed at myself for not being on top of things and maximizing return.

EDIT: This is the only mention in the email I received back in May
Quote
•Tickets may be claimed on a first come, first served basis. Once the “free tickets” made available for a specific event have been claimed, you will not be able to use your Ticket Codes to acquire tickets for that event.

Quote
•Initially it is anticipated that Ticket Codes will need to be used on or before June 18, 2020 or they will be extinguished. Depending on the redemptions of benefit Codes and the distribution of tickets through that date, expiration of Codes may be extended for up to two years.

Maybe they'll be another class action lawsuit about the payout of this one.  >:D

Checked my phone before going to bed and they had added the next round of tickets.
I got two tix to:

Weezer (meh, at least it's not in a city)
Disturbed (ok)
The Claypool Lennon Delirium  ;D
Black Sabbath (yay)
Kieth Urban (for a friend)
Korn/Rob Zombie (ok)

Not bad for free.
Sucks they're all at least 3 hours away, so I may skip a couple.
I can't imagine those $2.25 discount codes are going to come in handy for anything.

Honestly I'm more excited to find out The Marcus King Band is playing 45 minutes away for $10.

I should beat you over the head with the 12" version of "The Killing Moon" I have coming in on Vinyl, Badmouth. I wish Echo & The Bunnymen were on our list.

I scored 4 tickets to Hall and Oates and 4 tickets to Weezer/Panic! At The Disco for my teenage daughter.

Yeah, I'd be a lot more psyched about these shows if I didn't have to drive 3.5 hours to get to them.
Doesn't look like I'm going to be able to take off work in order to drive to the Black Sabbath show.   :-\
If it were closer, it wouldn't be an issue.

Man I really never go to concerts any more.... Last one was the Toadies Rubberneck Replay tour and I got so hammered and almost got a DUI, before that it was Muse and that was only because someone bought me tickets....

I just can't justify the cost anymore, and I hate arena shows.  I much prefer intimate performances, and in Tulsa that usually means the Cain's Ballroom.  And no one comes there any more....

Saw Panic at the Disco and Weezer last night from a great distance away.  Didn't make it there early enough to see the other bands.
The stage designs were pretty awesome.  Other than that, meh.
My friend and I sat back nitpicking them like the two old guys on the Muppets.

I'm getting old and have become spoiled:
Watching a show from far, far, away sucks.  I'd rather pay the money for good seats and have a better experience.
$15 for a 16oz craft beer sucks (didn't buy, $7-8 is the norm at the venues I'm used to going to)
Waiting in line 20 minutes for a drink because half the people are paying with a credit card, there's only one machine, and the five employees stand in line waiting to use the card machine rather than take care of cash customers sucks.  Oh, and the card machine is painfully slow because it relies on a mobile network which is overloaded from the crowd.
Porta Potties suck, but they suck worse when there are no sinks or hand sanitizer provided.
I give the bands a 6 and the venue a minus 1.  To be fair to the bands, I'm not much of a fan of their style of music anyway.

Eh, it got me out of the house on a Sunday evening.
Game of Thrones probably would have been a PITA to stream as it aired anyway.

Looking forward to seeing The Claypool Lennon Delirium in a smaller venue.

and 4 tickets to Weezer/Panic! At The Disco for my teenage daughter.

Yeah, there were a ton of 15ish year old girls there to see Panic! At The Disco.
My friend's 25 year old niece made fun of us for going and said she hadn't listened to them since middle school.
All the little girls would lose it when the lead singer went falsetto.

LOL..Ticketmaster.  What a ---smurfing--- great company.  $100 for a ticket..add another $25-$30 for fees and handling.

Get caught being the --bags of cream-filled twinkies-- that they are, and their punishment is giving out $2.25 vouchers to the people they ---fouled up beyond all recognition--- over for years.

Oh, sorry.  Forgot about the free general admission tickets they gave out for ---smurfy--- concerts in 15 of 50 states.

Eh, it got me out of the house on a Sunday evening.

I will give them credit for the Houston shows.  The ones halfway worth seeing are at House of Blues, and while that's a total yuppie stand in the back and drink $15 beers place, it's a decent venue with garage parking across the street.  About as easy as the concert experience is going to get.

Not every HOB does it, but I had a great experience at HOB Cleveland with their dinner package.  I found out about it when calling them about accommodating a gimpy friend.
We got meal vouchers toward dinner there and the included tickets didn't have the ticketmaster charges added on (it was a few years ago, so that could have changed).
After dinner they escorted us past the line and into the club to reserved barstools around a high top with waiter service.
It was one of the best show going experiences I've ever had.  (others probably would have been at the 9:30 Club in DC)

I called the HOB in Atlantic City hoping for the same treatment, but they acted like they'd never heard of such a thing.

That has always been the Ticketmaster business model from the day they opened.  The settlement actually makes a sadistic type of sense.

If you have unused vouchers, keep an eye on the website today.

They said they'd add more tickets this week, but haven't yet.
Just got the same generic email I got 2x before.
Last time I got it, they added tickets later that day.
