Title: Golden. Tee ATX power supply conversion
Post by: goldengraham on June 15, 2016, 01:31:14 pm
Hey guys, another quick question.
I have a messed up Red board GT2005. I also have an old green board I'd like to test, but I don't have the green power supply.

To test the board, can I just remove the top 4 wires on my JAMMA connections and use the Molex connectors to power the board?

Thanks
GG

the problem with atx supply is u need to have a power good wire (green) normally tied to ground
from there u can use the hard drive or cd rom drive power supply plug to plug into the green board
to test the board. DO NOT LEAVE IT THIS WAY. but u can test that way

ebay has a kit u can by to do this. but as a rule I do not recommend it.
reason is the green board with full jamma hook up provides all the current the board needs
and it is a few heavy amps

I'm going to use a ATX breakout kit to test the board. This way I can have the full power of the power supply and the ground easily.

Think that will be OK?

the breakout kit is the 1 I was referring to..
it dose not provide ground to the jamma ? last time I looked
but rather routes it through a backdoor way.
now if they changed it up ? I would love to see it

This is not one that is designed for JAMMA. I have terminal blocks I'm going to move all the JAMMA connections to. Then this ATX breakout adapter will provide me all the ATX voltages and ground on binding posts so I don't have to butcher my ATX 20pin harness.

good
my point is simple
on the green board gen1-2 was made for full ground to come out to jamma
gen-3 was a mix board (buck hunter-silver-strike-carnival-king) style
there 12v 5v ground had a whole new set of power rules

the red board again had a full new set of power rules
ground coming through and out to the jamma by means of the atx plug.

now what I have done (FOR TESTING OLNY) is tied the green wire of the atx power supply to ground (turns on the power supply-power-good-line) and used the 4 pin hard drive and cd rom drive to power board and used the extra 4 pin plugs to power the hard drive >game drive< and ground to the control panel (test only)
