Title: What resolution TV?
Post by: Segasuu on June 22, 2002, 09:47:51 am
Hiya, I'm looking to nuy a TV for my Mame cab and was wondering what the highest resolution used by a Mame game is so I can get a TV to support it.

Uh.. That's it!

Thanks  :)

The video cards I have seen will support up to 800x600 for s-video out.  This is much more than Mame games use.  Just make sure your tv can accept s-video.

Jm he asked about a tv's resolution.  Tv's don't have a resolution per say, but are generally measured by the number of lines per inch.  The higher the better, but to be honest there's no tv out there that has a resolution comprable to a vga monitor if that's what you thinking.  Just stick to jm's suggestion and get a tv with svido out.  A comb filter also helps with image quality too.

I would not worry to much about it.  Most emulated games I've seen, don't go beyond 300 pixles for horizontal res.

Most decent TV sets with 25 or 25" diagonals have around 600 total horizontal TV lines of res except very cheap ones probably.

Vertical resolution for all NTSC TV's (unless they are defective, very very bad or very small screens) is fixed at 480 scan lines because that is what the NTSC standard dictates.  High definitinion sets are another story altogether.

If you want to see the resolution for each game MAME emulates, use the -listinfo parameter or use a frontend that will show it to you like EmuLoader.

If you have further questions, feel free to e-mail me.

Regards,

Manuel

Having trouble finding an S-video TV (already way over budget :)), so I was debating getting one of these:

Any thoughts?
