I have bought a couple of Golden tee live machines one has 2007 and one 2010 version. The PC running the games both were not working when bought.
Went through all the normal trouble shooting procedures such as swapping in working ram and working video card, new cmos battery, swapped cpu, swapped power supply which made the system go from doing nothing to all the fans and lights working on power up but still getting no signal on both monitor outputs?
Any idea what the problem still might be?
-
I have heard if you pull the ram, video card, and hard drive out and try to boot if there is no beeping sounds it's your motherboard. That being said I have absolutely no experience doing that to confirm one way or the other. I'm very sure the motherboard on the nighthawk boxes can probably be swapped with a cheap motherboard from an older PC but I can't say for sure. That would save a load of $$$, maybe someone else has first had knowledge of this on this forum. Lilshawn and Ed12 are experts with these machines.
-
Yep no beeps at all with everything unplugged just the fans all running?? 2 nighthawks doing with the same problem
-
if shawm dose not chime in with the bios settings i will when i get in from the warehouse
ed
-
it depends on the mfg date
ie sept or later was gen2,eariler was gen1
if gen 1 leave out video card, and run base band video >vga<,gen 1 did not beeb on bios
when u swapped the bios bat u made it brain dead,to fix this vga,key-board
set the hard drive and date/time :date time very important: the first boot device :hard drive:
save exit reboot :not power off:
it should boot to the root
!mfg-date is very important!
ed
-
Just curious how to get into the bios on one of these?
-
read lower post..
key-board
vga
1-small fast beep
"hint"-> esc key keep pressing it....
ed
-
Ed is the motherboard and processor need to be a specific type or would any P4 3ghz compatible PC work?
-
with the black hawk i would just repair the mobo.
maybe shawn can chime in on the exacts ?

Where would the mfg date be found? Tried all that's been suggested still fans run and no beeps. Have 3 of the same boards all doing the same thing?? Ummm
-
well if it dose not take all day ? here u go
ed
-
Thx to all who have tried to help but nothing has fixed my problem of no beeps at power up but all fans running. This all leads to faulty motherboard. Any one have any replacement motherboards for this game or direct me to where I can buy one?
-
la775 is a common board
any p3/4 should do the job

-
better then how it came from the factory
ed
-
Hey Ed motherboard doesnt run the game it just sits at the start screen. This also happened when i tried a random amd motherboard?? Must need a specific type of motherboard to run game not just an lga775 chipset one
-
it just is not un-packing the kernel
there is multi reasons for this
1=wrong video chip, it might be looking for the video card
2=missing info file on harddrive
as a rule the game will un-pack then tell u that it is having driver problems with the board
ed
-
sorry, I've been avoiding the forum due to the timeouts and lag it's been having. I used to check this forum a dozen times a day....now i can barely get myself on to check it every other day it seems. real hit and miss.
just something I noticed not mentioned here yet...
the CPU's (often core duos) that IT supplied with the board originally, don't have an IGPU in them... you must use a videocard otherwise it won't boot up at all. (due to there being no graphics to initialize. if you swap the CPU for a i3 or better processor that includes an IGPU on board, the system will work without a videocard and the integrated VGA port will operate.
-
that's way I was leaning towards #2 reason.
I thing I did not ask is do u have the cid board hooked up ?
ed
-
The harddrive and video cards are tested running this game and all work 100% with the game golden tee live 2010 which is on the tested harddrive. All cid, io boards are the same and tested working 100%. All that i have done is buy new mother board plug tested boards cid io power boards into mothermoard used tested power supply connected hard drive and video card and the result is it gets stuck at same spot on boot up??
-
I know this sounds mundane and u may have already did this.
but just hook it up as a normal computer
and make sure it is working right
as I tried to explain something is holding it back from un-packing the kernel
and if it is the mother board? it should not show up so soon.
that as a rule comes after un-packing
Linux is very robust
also make sure that the drive assignment is set right (most important)
and did u transfer the ram from the old mother board ?
if so then this is why I am asking u to try it as a normal computer first
ed
-
The new motherboard came with its own ram and was tested working. Umm will plug in another hard drive and test motherboard. Is there any bios settings that need changing?
-
if the bat has not been changed ? then it should be plug and play
for normal usage
ed
-
So new motherboard works with game. I noticed in bios that the hard drive wasnt showing up so changed sata plug and all working as it should. Thx for all the help.
Now to see why the monitor has died urghhh

So in regards to montor it shows up very out of focus and if i turn the focas on the flyback all the way it only gets to atound 90% right. If i leave there on power up next game there will be no picture until inturn focus and screen back to original position. Is there any fix for this or is the flyback on its way out?
Also for some reason i am now getting no sound or works intermittently. I noticed this showing up in the startip screen have i some how corrupted the sound file or can you tell me what this means?
-
the screen problem could be due to a pic tube starting to gun down and or a bad fly back.
I tend to go with the picture tube as that is a sign of age.
if u look at the Linux kernel un-folding u can clearly see the fail msg.
chk the sound file.
and or front panel stuff
as it is beening told 906 ? that's loud

Whats that mean ed?? Do i need to turn the volume down to get volume back?? There are 2 volume control buttons inside cab at front. Are they faulty? Please advise?
-
hi
well I did point out that the audio-kernel is not un-packing.
in windows it means >drivers not found<
in Linux it says > kernel not un-packing<
they both mean about the same
the normal way for golden tee of any kind to turn volume up or down
is through there on screen menu
906 is a very loud output which will give u overload/clipping
ed
-
Still was unable to fix the sound issue. Can you please direct me to how you would fix this please Ed? You told me to check the sound file. How do i do this? Also saying driver not found. Sound was working fine not sure what i Changed to stop the sound from working now?
-
sorry for the delay
i will look into the cd tommrow as it is at the warehouse .
un-less it is on the software update stick ?
either way it is at the warehouse also

Thx Ed seems strange though that all eas working with sound and still i can here the speaker static on boot up even though seems alot louder and then the error shows up and no sound at all even static goes. Hope to hear from you soon mate

ok I just got it home..i knew u would be up.:)
u have a bad kernel...
let me pick them out
1=live right ?
2=Blackhawk rev 2 ?
is this correct ?
the reason I ask
if I up-load the wrong kernel we can make it worse

Ed the game version is GT 2010 live. The motherboard running the game now is the one i supplied the link to above.

gen 1
let me find the s/w
ed
-
So ed you think its a software issue?? Not a hardware problem. Seems strange as all was working perfectly.
-
unfortunately I don't know much about linux so i'm not much help on that front.
has the sound maybe been disabled in BIOS accidentally?
can we confirm by comparing the old board and the new board that indeed the sound chip is the same? (board i have here is a realtek alc888s)
if the sound chip is not the same (for whatever reason) the driver the software loads might not be compatible. i know some runs of boards change some chips because of availability usually they get marked as V2 or revX or whatever..
-
that's what I was after..
thk-u for chiming in shawn

Im sure i was having this issue with the old working board but could be mistaken. Im going to try the working pc from other machine with hard drive and see what happens n report back.
-
So boys i pulled the nighthawk out of the other machine to test sound and sound works as it should. Here is the board number of the working pc.

Can you please clarify what you need me to do Ed? What is the end result?? Is it an easy fix or is it just better to buy another motherboard that as the right sound hardware?

at this point spitfire the last pdf I upload is the board best used to fit your needs and correct the problem.
unless u are good at Linux ?

So to fix the sound problem you suggest to replace the motherboard that you already told me to buy earlier in this thread with a D865GBF board as per the manual you posted now. Is that right?
-
unless you can manage to somehow configure the linux installtaion to use the different? (if it's different) sound chip on board.
have you tried the audio output from the HDMI port on the videocard?
-
I will try to run the sound directly off the motherboard and see what happens. As it is runninh from the little power board left of pc to the io board and then out the jamma harness to the speakers. May this make a difference?
As the Video card im running doesnt have a hdmi sound output only 2 dvi plugs. Its a nvidia gt6600 card.
-
yeah, the flat cable that plugs onto the motherboard basically taps the front panel header connection for use out the back RCA's... switching to the headphone on the rear won't help. it's more or less the exact same output.
the 6600GT is a really old card. i'm surprised it still works.
they switched from the 6600 to a 7600...then a 9500 the 9500GT was the first card they used that had HDMI (used SPDIF from the mobo for HDMI audio)
the GT430 card after that was the first card used in the Golden tee's that have a separate audio encoder device for the HDMI.
-
from what i read and know
i posted on it >the sound chip dose indeed vary<
now i do not work for its but lord knows when we did up-dates like that >hardware< we would include as a matter of course older
audio chips,if the mfg of the board did a up-date mid stream, then there is no way without sending out a tsb and patch file we could offer support.
shawn hit on a good point
worth a try
dead board to running is not to bad

Thx Shawn for the insight mate. Unfortunately this game is running on a old style Jamma golden tee cab with medium resolutiin old school moniter thats the reason for the old school video card i guess. I need to get this cab running sound. So is the better or cheaper option buying a new motherboard as ed suggested for the second time? And if so can you confirm that the one ed suggested D865GBF is the biard to buy? Or is there a better one? Or is the better option to buy new video card? If so please confirm exact one that will donthe job? Either way just want to buy and get this sucker working! Ha ha
Also have this board on its way will this do the job correctly??

sent you a PM.
I will also get back to you first thing in the AM regarding board model numbers.
-
its no problem mate
glad shawn is on board to help
3 minds will get it worked out
what we need to keep in mind
is its-gamming did a few different things.
and a company in usa found a way to mix and match it worse >bmgamming< for 1
will sell u a converison kit
blackhawk - mix and match parts (gen1-2)
so it was like a bag of nuts@bolts different grab a whole new hand full

So what i understand from all this discussion is that a realtek sound board codec is the one we need to get the sound to run as the other board i bought although it being a lga775 chipset which will run the game the sound chip was a sigmatel or something which it doesnt like and hense no sound. So saying all this looking to buy this motherboard will it work?

okay, so the computer I currently have by my desk here is a GT live 2013 so it's board might be newer than what was available during the 2010 time... thus, may not have built in driver support in 2010 for the newer board.
I will post the model # for posterity's sake.
This GT2013 computer has an Intel DB65AL motherboard with 1 GB factory supplied ram.
so I can absolutely confirm that model board will work with GT versions 2013/14/15/16 and so on into perpetuity. I cannot confirm any backwards compatibility from 2013 as I'm not sure when driver support was added.
as for your suggested board...
I know of a D915GUX board, i'm unsure of the year it was introduced. it is a confirmed GT model number though.
i'm, not sure what the difference between the D915GRV and the D915GUX boards are, but it could be quite significant... it could be inconsequential. it could be as trivial 4 vs 2 sata ports....it could be a totally different northbridge chipset to different CPU compatibility... this is the reason intel boards are kind of a bugger to source...they have literally endless variations of the same board. for our setup here, you pretty much have to source an exact replacement model number.
I'll keep digging up model information and post it here as I get it.
-
I have here what appears to be an old target toss/ Bags nighthawk computer one of the other vendors literally just brought in for me to repair....so to add to the list...
it is a Intel DG965SS it has some kind of sigmatel audio chipset STAC9227 ? (hard to read)

It seems to be a bit of a hit and miss mate as the board that isnt working at the moment is an intel board D975XBX2 with the same sigmatel audio chipset 9227 but why no sound with GT 2010 live???? Will try the board posted above with realtek audio chip and report back how i go.

Mine is a D915GUX and it was an original 2005 LIVE, I bought it with 2009 installed and now 2016.

Mine is a D915GUX and it was an original 2005 LIVE, I bought it with 2009 installed and now 2016.
I have 3 of those D915GUX boards and not one of them work. Thats what started this thread. All power on and fans spin but nothing apears on screen or loads. Maybe i shoild look to someone fixing these motherboards. Where or who would i look to repairing these??
-
I've seen one a few weeks ago that specifically does golden tee nighthawk boards. If I recall it was 30 bucks for the estimate and bout 100 to fix. Comes with some kind of warranty.
All in, I think a guy could buy a used board for about the same price. So either way at that point.
When I'm not on my phone and back at the computer, I'll dig through my history and see if I can find it.
-
So the intel D915GRV motherboard arrived and i am back in the game with all working as it should. This board has realtek sound driver. I will try that old board on the 2016 upgradr and see if i get sound on it?? Thx All for help.

Hey lilshawn, just wondering if motherboard failure is common with these units? I'm wondering if maybe I should pick one up as a spare while they are available?
-
yes they are
caps/video /fans
common crap
ed
-
it's pretty common.
basically if you see blown caps and it still works, replace them. it'll probably be okay.
if it's dead and you open it up and the caps are blown...your chances of resurrecting it are 50/50...and then it's likely not going to be reliable. (random crashes...reboots etc.)
basically if you can get to it BEFORE its a problem, your golden.
-
So the old GT LIVE dedicated cab with 2 screens is what i have. I was told by Scott at IT that it is no longer supported and the offline versions i have 2016 and 2013 GT Live no longer support this cab so my 2nd screen is upside down. The dip switch that flips the screen is also no longer supported on the offline version. So to cut a long story short had to manually flip the 2nd screen which was a big pain in the butt. Urghhh!!
-
such is the arcade operator life. :dunno
companies abandon their hardware and we are left holding the bag.
manually flipping the screen is a huge PITA but you got it  at least the screen still works instead of just displaying garbage, clone of the main screen, or worse yet...nothing anymore.
-
ya..
like I said they drop support at a whim
at 1 time I thought 10 years was going to be there bench mark
now days it is more like 2 if u are lucky

Second screen is worthless in the offline version as it only clones main screen. Disaster!!

Yes I found the same problem, has to flip the top monitor with my 2015 unplugged and then has to flip it back again for 2016 home online.

truly I need to rotf and lol....
think exactly what is the second screen for exactly...
