Title: Painting/Stenciling advice
Post by: 8BitMonk on April 07, 2016, 03:48:28 pm
Getting ready to paint and stencil both a Joust and a Pac-Man restoration I'm working on.

I think I'm going to roll the solid colors including a primer and try sanding/wet sanding to limit any orange peel.  I'm not sure if I'll roll or spray the stenciled colors, leaning towards rolling, may depend on the color match and whether I can get certain colors in a rattle can.

I've heard to leave the stencils for 24hrs. before removing. Any other advice appreciated!

I would not roll a stencil.  Sure it can be done, but I think it would go on too thick.  Rattle can is the better option and HVLP is the best option.

I actually already rolled the Joust paint job, you can see the results here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,150909.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,150909.0.html)

Turned out pretty well, you can tell there's a texture but it still looks decent. Probably had to do more touch up than I would've spraying it, I'm going to try an HVLP gun for the Pac-Man and compare the differences.
