Title: ¿Are there any other options other than romlister to sort rom files?
Post by: SlammedNiss on April 01, 2016, 05:54:23 pm
I have an 80gb HDD I threw in an Xbox and I'm trying to set up MameoX. I have 9000+ rom files, and I don't really want to copy every rom over if it isn't necessary. I've tried creating a batch file using romlister, but when I run the batch file to move wanted roms over to "d:\wantedroms\" folder, it keeps telling me "The device is not ready" on every rom as it proceeds thru my roms directory.

It seems like many moons ago, there was an easier way to sort/separate rom files than romlister. I don't remember ever having to go thru this much trouble. The last time I did this, I remember using some program that was set up similar to database file where you could pick your options and then it separated the wanted roms from the unwanted roms. Is there a different way to go about doing this? I'm trying to conserve as much space as possible on this Xbox being that the HDD is only 80gb and don't really want to copy over all 26gb+ over if I don't have to.

It's too bad that you're blaming romlister for your misconfigured batch file you created.

"device not ready" is windows reporting there is a problem with the command you issued- perhaps the D: drive is actually your DVD drive and there is no disc in it?  Whatever that problem is, it is absolutely not romlister's fault.

A tool is only as powerful as the person wielding it.

Pretty much what I thought when I read the problem.

I actually got it figured out a couple hours after I posted. I always set up my PC drives as C:, D:, then the optical drive as Z:. When I had to reformat last month, I forgot to go into Disk Management and configure the drives how I like them. So yea, the batch file was trying to write to the optical drive. However, I still don't remember sorting ROM's being this difficult the last time I did it. Granted, it's been 10+ years the last time I did, but I don't remember having to go through so many steps.

10+ years ago there was also only about 15% of the ROMS in a set.
