Title: It's beginning to look a lot like Chuffmas
Post by: Howard_Casto on December 22, 2015, 09:05:08 pm
I just finished helping my father in law put down a new composite floor in his kitchen.  I put my first one in around 1999 and swore I'd never do one again.  This is my third.  So after some sub-flooring repairs and around 12-15 hours total labor we put in one in a room with kitchen cabinets on three of the four walls.  That should be fairly impossible to do well, but my mad skillz to pay the bills helped.

I've been sitting for the past hour or two.... I better get used to this position because I'm not sure if I'll be able to move for a while.  Getting old sucks, I don't recommend it.

My daughter and I did a Doctor Who-athon today to get caught up before the Christmas special.

This season has been fairly terrible.  Dat ending though..... all is forgiven despite the obvious plot holes.

I've actually enjoyed this season, but I'm not a particularly discerning sci-fi viewer. I've really enjoyed Peter Capaldi's turn as the Doctor.

That is impressive.

Finally bought the wife a car so she would stop bitching.  Of course it cut into my Arcade/Zapcon budget so that's not very Chuff.

Oh Capaldi isn't the problem.  He's amazing.  It's Moffat.  They need to fire him and get a real show runner in there.

Worst part about laminate flooring is how it tears up your saw blades... fastest way to take a good 80 tooth blade and make it unable to cut Styrofoam...

Tis why you buy a laminate blade.

This ^^  The right tool for the job.  My 30-40 dollar z bar was well worth the money as well.

Still burns those carbide teeth down to dull nubs.. that laminate surface is hard stuff.  And at $1 per tooth to get sharpened, might as well throw away your $80-100 laminate blade after you lay 1000 sq ft...

Well call me comrade then... we've been opening on Christmas eve my whole life.  Mostly because we all want to take a nap after Christmas dinner the next day.

Super Mario Maker (yay!  Pbj will have a level buddy)
Assassin's Creed Syndicate
a play-n-charge kit
Car mats for the Camaro
A Kreg jig (yay!  Now I get to make cabinets)
And a surprisingly awesome quad copter from mom.
Oh and money, nothing beats money.

Yeah I'm excited about it.  I want to make a proper display area for all my consoles.  I looked into the generic cube furniture that's in fashion now, but the dimensions didn't work well with the area I've got.

I'm building a bookshelf for a friend. It's going to be a test run for a full-size pantry shelving setup for my house.

Super Mario Maker (yay!  Pbj will have a level buddy)
Got this for my daughter for the WiiU.. Either she is in playing it now or she went back to bed, lol.  Also got her one of those 3D pens but it jammed up after about 30 minutes, so I will have to tear into it and see what is up.

I got 2 shirts (one Falllout 4 Vault Dweller shirt and a Star Wars one), gloves, a hat, and a Wahl beard shaver.  Everything I asked for (except the shirts from my kids, that was a nice surprise).  That and a truckload of cash from the parents, which is the annual gift in effort to offload as much of the inheritance as they can to avoid death taxes...

Took the week off and am thinking about pulling the shop tools out (all tucked away) and busting out some cherry I have saved for the last 6 years and starting a cabinet for the theater room.  Also shopping for a kick ass sub for the theater (got jealous at the IMAX theater so I need to up my home game).  I will probably be building a new subwoofer enclose for my son since I got him a new sub for his car as well, so maybe that will get me back in the mood to make some sawdust...

Yeah me and my daughter got a $20 steam card and with the crazy sales right now I think we got almost 15 games, all local coop with controller support, all family rated and all were extremely high rated.  Still only spent $15 bucks of the card. Crazy..

I got... booze. Lots of it in a variety of beers and rums. Some love letters from some female friends who know im having troubles with my wife (which actually pissed me off really bad) some cash, and some candy. The candy actually wasn't mine. Since my wife went and spent xmas with her family on the mainland, leaving me all alone on this island I went to the neighbors house and watched their kids open the gifts. Christmas is definitely more fun with children around. They got licorice all sorts. And each had one piece. I took home the other 598 pieces.

For myself, I bought a Soundcraft UI16 mixing board for my rehearsal space. It's a mixing board that is mixed over wifi. Great little device, saves me the trouble of running back to the mixing board in the corner every 5 seconds.

Trimmed off that EA logo and it fit perfectly into a poster frame I dumpster dove last year...

Nah that's still pretty classy compared to me.  I've got so much Mario everywhere that people probably think it's a kids room.  Mind you they are right, a 36 year old kid, but still.

Well, ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---... I broke down and bought one more present for "me"...  After seeing Star Wars in the new IMAX, I needed to up my HT game so I started with 2 18" subs that I am building enclosures for (sealed) and driving with a 6000w amp (only about 2200 real watts RMS though).  Then I will build all new speakers for the rest of the system, and either find a good receiver or go with a decent preamp processor and component amplifier... What started as a $500 subwoofer upgrade turned into insanity, but that's how us DIY folks roll I guess... I'm just hoping my neighbors don't complain when I'm dropping 110 db 16hz notes watching Interstellar.. I mean the ones a few blocks over..

Today I hit Lowes to get the stuff to move all my gear into the other room, starting with two more 20 amp breakers and some conduit so I can feed two more 20a outlets to the shelf I will put the gear on.  Hope it's enough...

It may not be arcade cabs, but I'm making sawdust today, lots of it... cut up two full sheets of MDF so far.  Kinda feels good to be back in the shop after such a long hiatus..

It's Super Mario Maker for me.  The delivery system sucks though.  Warp pipes I guess are delivered dead last, which makes no sense as they are the most important item aside from mushrooms and Mario himself.  *grumble*

Mel Brooks recently said they were working on a script for a sequel.
Gotta cash in while the opportunity is there.

The only thing he said about it was that it was tentatively called "The Search for More Money", but that was a joke from the original one.
I'm guessing not a lot has been done.

I beat the game back in '90 on the SMS. A good friend of mine in high school mapped out every dungeon on graph paper and lent them to me when I played it through.

I bought it via the Virtual Console years ago and played through half of it. On Monday, I was goofing around and reloaded it, used my phone to find some online maps, and used them to finish off the game.

Eh.... I don't have much hope for that one.  Do a google search for Space Balls the animated series.  Yes it exists and yes it's so lame that it was buried soon after release.  The amount of love I have for Mel Brooks is immeasurable, but I think he's too old to write a decent script these days.  Also no John Candy.  The logical replacement would have been Chris Farley, but he's dead too.  Is Will Sasso dead yet?  Has he learned to be funny?

Mogs only live like 14 years.  Every human year is like 7 years to them.
Lonestar gets a new one from the shelter every so often.

Honestly I don't have a lot of hope for it either, but imagine all the new stuff from the prequels they could parody.

Half the cast is dead... joan rivers, john candy, dom deloiuse, heck even mel brooks is half gone. I watched the spaceballs cartoon when it was on netflix and I was expecting something for the kids. It was terrible, but in a way that added to the entertainment. I give it just enough stars to watch it.

Yeah and don't forget that Rick Moranis is officially retired from acting.  He made a metric ton off of those Honey I Shrunk the Kids films and decided to no longer act soon after.  So the star of the show won't return either.
