We bought a brand new GE gas stove last october (model JCGB750sef2ss if anyone else has one..) Anyways, ever since day one, it had a "gassy" smell when you used the range. We called the service department and after the back and forth we just sort of gave up on having them come out. It seems here in Canada they farm out the service calls to a third party who then calls you back at random times but you can never get a hold of them--very frustrating..
Anyways, having some free time I opened the thing up (very easy with the help of youtube) and had a look. Aside from pretty crappy build quality I found three extra holes in the burner that don't ignite when the burner is on. I screwed in three micro screws from an old laptop, and bingo problem solved. Thank you GE for your tight quality control and responsive customer service!

You sure those aren't vent holes or something like that? I don't know anything about gas appliances, but I'm curious why those holes would be there.

I'll miss Menace...

LOL--I live! I checked my burner assembly against a new one and the only thing different were those three little holes...I went back and unplugged the top one since it did seem to start faster with it open. The other two just seemed to be a good spot for unburnt gas to come whistling out off..
