Title: Games that were better on console than arcade
Post by: Aceldamor on October 30, 2015, 11:23:09 am
So, there was a thread about what console games would make good cabs, I'm curious to see who thought console ports of games were better than their respective arcade version.

I'll kick it off.

Contra - Nes
Bionic Commando - Nes

Yeah, I'd say "all of them" once you got a couple of years into the 16 bit era.  The launch NES and Genesis games were about dead even with their respective arcade counterparts.

Well in some ways even the nes versions were better.  For example Nintendo almost exclusively releases the NES versions of Pac-man, Galaxian and Donkey Kong on their virtual console because the sprites are identical except the layouts have been reformatted to take advantage of a landscape oriented monitor.

I know to purists they don't compare, but the majority of the gaming population doesn't give a crap about authenticity.

How about that version which allows two players together?

I want to say Golden Axe, but it's a give and take when they added the final level, yet lost all the gore along with the corpses strewn about.

Much preferred Rampart on NES to the Arcade Rampart.
