Hi guys, its been a while since my last build and the bug has bitten again. Since building the Arkanoid Bartop, I've wanted to do a horizontal in a similar style. here's my progress so far. sorry for the crappy pics.
-
Welcome back Paul
Nice to see some action again :applaud:

Cheers.
Here's a better pic.

Today I've worked on the coin mech area. Leaving enough space below for the cash door.
-
Today I've cut out the bezel and back. Next I will be taking it all apart to sand, prime and paint. :hissy:
-
sand, prime and paint.
Hopefully not in that order. There is really no need to sand MDF. (unless the edges)
I normally prime, sand then paint.

Not to mention the amount of nasty ass dust that sanding MDF would create.
-
I always sand first to remove any residue from labels and slight imperfections from cuts I've made.
-
My process is seal the edges, sand, prime, sand, prime, paint, wetsand, paint, lacquer, sand and buff. Aiming for a nice mirror finish.

Oh my. Well then, you should be fine then!

What lacquer do you use?

I really like the look of the coin mech. Makes the cabinet look so much more "playable" and fun.
-
Looks like a converted Trivia Whiz. LOL.
-
What lacquer do you use?
A high gloss. Must be the same brand as the paint though
-
Finally painted the sides, bezel and coin area.
-
I wouldn't have thought of putting the coin mech beside the screen like that, but it looks great!
-
You should have seen his Arkanoid bartop.... it was on Fleck (I think I'm using that right)
Anyways, nice to see you working on this one again, I had forgotten about it.

On Fleek (so close to using that right)

I like the classic design. They had a crt bartop at my local barcade that had the coin door like that, it looks super cool. Theirs played Battle of Atlantis.
-
More to follow.......
-
Liking that
-
Done a rough artwork print to judge size. What do you guys think? Not the finished artwork.
-
Other than the name, I like what you've done here.
-
Yeah not sure on the name myself, and I don't like the font. Will probably keep the colours though. Any suggestions on a name? Want something generic.
-
Yeah liking the look on that.
Barcade is pretty generic lol

Aint Christmas yet ;)
Are you asking Father Christmas for one? ;-)
-
What types of games do you plan on playing the most? Might help with naming. By the way, love the styling.
So if you are going to play a lot of classics call it, "8-bit Spectrum" or something vague like that
If it's a go right and fight cab call it, "Final Boss" or "Next Level" ya get the idea
other short name ideas: Raster, Pixel, Excite, Station 1, Blaster, Twitch

I like "Spectrum".

They sit on your laptop? Does it end up smelling like ass?

Only if you get skanks :o
Dont think spectrum would fit though ;)
Maybe ZX or something lol
-
I like "Spectrum".
Might have to change the colours from lines, didn't realise it looks similar to the" zx spectrum". The colours are taken from Pacman. I probably won't be keeping it as I already have an upright. That's why I want a generic name

Wait, so this is a flip build?

Not really a flip, I started over a year ago. It's the building I enjoy. I usually build them strip and build again. Just don't have the room. I just keep the Marquee.
-
Added the original Arkanoid spinner to my full size cab.
-
Here's the Marquee from my second build. Just wish I had the room to keep them all. Especially my first, an Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 Weecade clone, God it was awful. There's a pic on Koenigs site, if anyones interested.

Added the original Arkanoid spinner to my full size cab.
How did you interface it? I have an original Arkanoid spinner I might want to repurpose.

Just had a little trip down memory lane looking at some of my older builds, links added to previous post. Seems all my images have gone from the Arkanoid build. Still have them somewhere, I'll have to update them.
-
MAME up and running with scan lines.
-
Good to see a new build from you Paul
I would go for more graphics for this one to pop it up a bit.
Just like the great arkanoid bartop :notworthy:
I'm still busy with other stuff, bud new plans are aready in my head. >:D

Yeah, had a bit of time off. But I've had this build laying around unfinished for about a year, time to get it finished me thinks. I hear you about the graphics, might come up with something else once it's finished, just need to get it done now. You working on anything at the moment?
