Well, I was bored at work on a night shift and as usual decided to research something random. I picked William S Sessions, the Winners Don't Do Drugs guy.
Holy hell was not expecting that. Also, the S is for Steele.

That article misses out on him getting the FBI to drive his wife around shopping, and using government money to build a metal fence around his property. A good thing to look up if you have some free time.

What an awesome middle name.

What an awesome middle name.
If you watch terrible movies, keep an eye out for an actor with the name Steele Justiss

Based on his IMDB profile he does not look like his name suggests he would. :lol Cool name though.

Admit it, you were reminded of this after reading this post (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,147277.msg1535830.html#msg1535830). ;D
And I've been looking for a higher res version of the "Winners Don't Use Drugs" splash screen for some time now. Anybody got one?
-
I just did a screenshot. But Bing is a pretty good search engine, even though I hate admitting that.

And no, although I did read that post lately. Instead of saying goodbye, my 14 year old niece and I say "Winners Don't Use Drugs!" ever since I built her an arcade machine (arcade safari in my sig)

Thanks. I have scoured Google images and can't find one hi-res. I'll look through Bing, too. I kinda forgot Bing existed! ;D

Yeah, my own kids were asking why that was the splashscreen for the cabinet I'm building. I told them it reminded me of the arcades of my youth. Really, I just want them brainwashed into the message by bright lights and bippity-bop sounds.

Make sure you teach your kids about Waco and Ruby Ridge, too.

and now you know....the rest of the story.

I don't know if this article was posted before, but I read this the other day about how "Winners Don't Use drugs" came to be.
https://www.inverse.com/article/5193-how-the-f-b-i-made-winners-don-t-use-drugs-the-arcade-motto-of-the-90s (https://www.inverse.com/article/5193-how-the-f-b-i-made-winners-don-t-use-drugs-the-arcade-motto-of-the-90s)
Interestingly, it was brought about by Bob Fay, who was director of the America Amusement Machine Association. He was an FBI agent in his prior career and still friends with the FBI director of public affairs.

That was an interesting article. The whole thing likely never would have happened without that connection with the AAMA.

Yeah, that was a real cute story and all but I think the effort had more to do with a dying industry trying to clean up its image of being a place for drug dealers to hang out while the owners laundered money.

I was at a party a few years ago and one of the pot heads was wearing a tshirt from the local arcade which closed decades ago. As they smoked cigarettes and passed a bowl, they reminisced about all the time spent hanging out there. The fondness for the place was genuine and beyond anything I've ever heard from a collector, but my thought was "oh, they're the ones I'm always reading about ruining the arcade scene.....Yeah I can see that".

Reminds of the green room in one of the places my band plays. All the bands that have played there have written stuff all over the walls of the room. Someone wrote "Only users lose drugs" ;D
