I was finally able to get Mame up and running using mGalaxy to my liking :applaud: Anyway wanted to know if there was a way for mame to launch in a 16:9 format or better put for the 4:3 game screen stretched across a 16:9 monitor. I know it may not look the best but was just curious.

You really want to do this?

it's dumb, but yeah, it's the most common thing I get asked about MAME IRL, people can't stand black bars and would rather have the game stretched full width, even vertical shooters like DoDonPachi... it's sacrilege, but there yo go..

Just use bezel artwork to fill the black spaces. :dunno

Honestly, I would just play the bad retro ports on xbox live before going through the trouble of setting up something with arcade controls, if the final product is that distorted. Or even a jaks plug and play on an old 13" TV. There's lots of 19" TVs on craigslist for $10. VGA to RCA converters are also cheap at this point. Yotsuya's suggestion is a good one if you really are stuck with the 16:9 monitor. I'd even go with a posterboard cut to the right size, as a bezel, before ruining the game.

Six posts and not a single anwer to your question, weird. Someone maybe able to give you better specific directions, but I'm not on a computer that has MAME nor do I do this, but I think you need to change two things in the INI file:
keepaspect 0
and I think you also need to set the aspect:
aspect 16:9
There is also HWSTRETCH, I don't know if that needs to be adjusted or not.

that doesn't have to happen if you use horizont.ini and vertical.ini
keep aspect on the vertical.ini
but bezels are the way to go

That was a hypothetical. But still, if you're gonna stretch the horizontal, you'd probably be the type to stretch the vertical as well.
Bezels rule.

yep. I stretched out the horizontal games on my living room setup and left the verticals with bezels. don't mind them stretched but the vert games just look way too funky. any other setup I use the bezels when using widescreen
