Okay, I have a Virtua Fighter cabinet with a 25" monitor in it. According to KLOV it is a medium resolution monitor. I'd like to convert this to a MAME machine...but I don't know what is involved in connecting a PC to it. Do I need the arcadevga card from Ultimarc? It looks like that is only for 15khz monitors. Is there a way to wire it directly to a normal video card or something??

a normal video card under windows will display a 31Khz signal, and you need a ~25Khz signal.
I think a program like advancemame can produce that. Do you know what resolution that virtua fighter runs at?
-
No, but I believe I read that medium res monitors run at 640x512 or something like that?
-
Advance Mame with a hacked VGA cable will definitely run on that Monitor.

I'm personally experimenting with Linux on different monitors (my standard res) and am pretty happy... its standard windows system can produce the modes required...
http://advancemame.sourceforge.net/ (check out advanceCD... cool idea!)

Okay, anyone know how I'd have to hack a video cable to get it to work?

i would hazard the same way you would hook up a standard rez :-)
I wired directly to my monitors board ALA ultimarc because i was stripping and dumping its old JAMMA wiring... you may or may not be keeping it.

One way is to use AdvanceMAME with a card that can output a 25Khz signal.
Another way is to use a scan converter.
Still another is to use an old EGA graphics card

I used this guide to great effect! Print out the molex connector guide too.

you might be able to switch it to standard res.
