Title: Rick Dangerous diorama
Post by: yamatetsu on July 22, 2015, 01:49:34 pm
There's this guy, Wuppes, from Belgium who makes amazing dioramas from game scenes. He did one from
Rick Dangerous, which was one of my fave Amiga games. It does look really cool, so I decided to make one too.
Wuppes uses styrofoam and printer paper for the 3D parts, I went with MDF and photo paper.

First, I printed the game scene, put it on double tape and cut out the 3D parts with a scalpel. Then I tacked
that onto a piece of MDF.

Then I used my jigsaw to cut out the shape.

The back :

Then I printed the game scene again, this time on photo paper, put it on double tape and cut the same parts
again with a scalpel. This I tacked onto the MDF. Then I printed the 'textures' for the walls, cut them out and
tacked them onto the MDF as well.

Thr result is the MDF wrapped in 'textures' :

Now I had to print the game scene a third time and tack that to the bottom of the diorama.
For this I used a thin piece of wood cut to size.
I then made a frame, painted it and glued the bottom of the diorama to it. Then I put the wrapped
MDF into it. No need to glue it, I had to wrestle it in.

Now to fill the diorama with life.

These will be 3D parts, I took thin metal strips, bent them at a right angle, put
double tape on them and used those to fix most of the cut-outs in place. For the ladders I used small
pieces of wood.

It's going on a shelf replacing a digital photo frame that has become an expensive dust collector. Should I ever move to a bigger apartment, I shall hang it up.
