Sorry for being out of date, I haven't messed with anything MAME since a year ago. I know at one point you guys were working on a project to basically map the controls of every single game out there.
What made me think about it was a few days ago, when I updated to the new MAME, it of course overwrote my cfg files for all of the Mortal Kombat series, so when I went in to play them, they no longer have the low kick button mapped. Stupid thing happens every time, and I am getting pretty fast at reconfiguring it, but it's still annoying.
Just wanted to check on how the project was going, if at all. It seemed like a great idea at the time, but also a pretty monumental task.

MAME now uses ctrlr ini files (have a look in the \mame\ctrlr folder).
Also read \mame\docs\ctrlr.txt, and there's a good section about it at www.mameworld.net/easyemu.

YEah, use the ctrlr files for mapping controls. I have on my site, or you can use NoNameMame, a hack to disable the tab menu input then so you have to use ctrlr files.
The project you are probably thinking of is http://fe.donkeyfly.com controls.dat.
It's up and going. I have a few bugs to work out but nothing that stops the project from going. It's currently at .74. I need to fix the script that updates it at some point in time:)

I read through that link you game me Minwah, and I think I understand what it's saying. It's just another way to configure your controls, so MAME is now doubling up.
I guess I just don't see why this way is better than the old way. Is it because it won't get overwritten?

Sipoonga, yes that is the project I was referring to, thanks for the link. Looks like it is still in business, which is cool. It will be nice to be able to quickly look up a game that I don't play much, like Primal Rage or NBA Jam, so see what the button layouts should really be. Then I will be able to map my cab to play them correctly.
Right now there are plenty of games that I am not sure I have the keys set up correctly for.

Is HC's app to show how controls map to your own CP available yet? I've been away for a while and couldn't find an announcement. HC's original date was "before the new year" but we all know how software projects go...

I think he decided to put it out at the same time as the new Dragon King or something.
Now that the holidays are over I can get back to programming for that project.

It's better because it's actually readable.... so you can do it outside of mame. Also as it's not tied to the stinkin dipswitches, ect (why in the world did the mame devs ever do that anyway?) like the cfg files are, it'll never get corrupted.
